Macpac Men's Heritage Waterproof Anorak Rain Jacket Green/Navy $60 (Was $250) + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store/ $150 Order) @ rebel

590

I've been looking for a rain jacket to use in SE Asia and for the odd rainy days in summer. This jacket seems decent for $60 (5000 water resistance & breathability @ 420g). I checked it out in the store and bought it. It's sturdy and can be easily rolled into my backpack. I'd pay the extra over the $20 Kmart rain jacket (which felt very flimsy).

3:30pm 31/7 update: Sizes M & L sold out. Size S limited stock.

Product Description
This anorak blends urban aesthetics with functionality. It's seam sealed and waterproof with a peaked hood to provide waterproof protection on wet days.

It has gussets under the arms for freedom of movement and there's a zip on the side of the body to make pulling it on and off easy. An elasticated drawcord at the hem also lets you adjust it for a snug or baggy fit.

The large zipped kangaroo pocket makes for easy storage and zipped hand pockets can also be used for storing small personals while on the go. Thoughtfully designed, this anorak also stuffs into the kangaroo pocket to become a carry bag with another functional pocket so it's easy to carry when not being worn.

The styling for this anorak was inspired by our very own archives featuring the Macpac Heritage logo on the chest.

Daaaaaaamn it'd want to be decent quality as you ain't wearing it for the looks. Nice to see their new designer with the seeing eye dog is being allowed a turn. ;-)

        And Mr big head lol

His Poor mother!!!!!! LOL… his Father always angrily telling him she was never "the same" since. ;-)

Not sure how they got that jacket on him over that colossus noggin! Full length zipper on the rear???

        • Would have stretched the neck hole lol

      Even the model looks embarrassed

This is perfect, I've been going for that mid-life crisis look! 🤣

I guess leave out the AI rubbish next time if you want some up votes, simply saying "the horror" is all anyone civilised would need to get it.

          • @Wip3out: I think Seinfeld fans would have got the reference

            Enjoy your rain jacket 😁🧥.

Ps. Yeah nerds should be the first ones worries about Ai taking yer jobs

I'll be in Hanoi next week so if anyone's there and see someone wearing this, it's probably me. Do say hi. 🤣

I thought the color was alright. Dark, understated and won't stand out in the rain. Far less offensive than red/orange.

        and won't stand out

I wouldn't want to stand out either whilst wearing that!

    • LOL, the entire pic is so 'UN-ZUD' …

Thanks OP! Been looking for a more reliable option than the $20 Kmart poncho.

I just got the blue version. Very good quality, can recommend!

    • +1

      How is the sizing?

  • +9

Looks decent enough, but I wouldn't use this in asia as its a pullover and not a jacket you can unzip. For asia I would just buy an umbrella as too hot for rain gear

  • +2

I’d jump on it only if was black or just navy…

  • +3

Truth be told, that's pretty uggo.

Macpac rain jacket? I just use my aldi bought snow jacket top layer and save like a billion dollars.

High visibility strips will help family find my body when I die of fashion shame

  • 5000 water resistance won't do much, need 20K

    • +1

I imagine 20k will be handy for hiking where there is no shelter during bad weather. For general use, especially in the cities, 5k is quite enough.

      • +1

For cities unless you're riding a bike/scooter or something an umbrella is always a better option

    • You need to balance breathability for a citywear. But agree this isn't high gear, but doubt you'd get high gear for $60

This has never been $250 at Rebel just FYI; it’s been $74.99 for over a month.

    • Was it the same product? Could've sworn I went in some months ago and saw something for $75

  • Saw these in store the other day and they seemed decent quality if you want this sort of thing.

  • Just go to SE Asia, rain coat is 10$ there. 😆

    • Yes exactly, dont take so much crap over, you'll probably never use it. Pretty easy to get something there cheaper if you need it. No one uses umbrellas in Thailand, just wait a bit for it to stop raining.

If you go during monsoon season, you'll be waiting for days!

        • +1

Depends where.. morning and or afternoon downpour/storm then it usually stops, no guarantees though lol.

Just get one of those ponchos dirt cheap that people use at the footy, can get on Amazon. The Ops jacket would be way too hot and take up room (and looks fked).

        • +1

This just isnt true for the majority of the times. We have been in monsoon season a few times, it rains mainly at night. When it rains during the day, it usually just dumps down and within half an hour its sunny again.

We've had travel agents laugh at us when we discussed 'travelling in monsoon season', its been quieter, cheaper, greener and warm with the sun out 95% of the time.

Oh, and the jackets are so unnecessary. Grab a 50c poncho to take if absolutely desperate. This jacket is ugly af

  • goretex is around 25K/20K so 5K is probably not best for big downpours

  • so good, best repurpose of left over tent and high-viz material ever !!

  • +1

    Ugly as (profanity)

  • Mate SE Asia rain is not like tinkle winkle… It's pouring shit bags. This looks cool but I'd stay away from those thunder bolt rains in SE Asia…

  • Not available in the Sunshine state.

Plastic poncho, usually less than 50c everywhere discard in the nearest river when rain stops. Can't see you spending more than 5$ for a 2 week trip in the rainy season.

They can also be reused if you're on a shoestring..

  • +1

Looking ugly as it gets. No wonder it's on clearance.

  • +2

Just been to Thailand and enjoyed a few rainy moments. I packed a jacket in my luggage and it never left the bottom of the bag.

If you are leaving a place that resembles winter in Australia at the moment, you will be in shorts and tank the whole time. You’ll embrace the rain, not shy away from it.

    • +2

Exactly what I said, but most chumps will take 20kg of checked in luggage haha

      • +2

We had a few flights ourselves, but one of them had 4 lots of 30kg checked baggage. I think between the 4 of us we managed about 50kg!

I reckon you could easily do a week in SE Asia without checked baggage

  • +2

Why is it even 250$ at first place?

  • We should make these the rainy day uniform for ozbargainers. Carry a woodworm umbrella if you are an OG.

  • thanks op, purchased one, paid $70. It seems like it's much better quality than "Cape" from Anaconda which i got for $50 about a year ago.

  • Just in case you dont want the missus to miss out on the fashion statement there is this one as well

    https://www.rebelsport.com.au/p/macpac-womens-heritage-water…

  • Worth signing into rebel, had a free 10$ there.

  • I bought the cheap rain poncho ones in SE for 1 buck, light weight and save room for other things
