Free public bus services
All public bus services will continue to be free from 1 July 2025. Residents and visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the free service.
This applies to:

But, seriously, in the case of the free transport home provided for the kids, the police already wear stab-proof vests.
And following the latest NT government decision, spit-proof hoods will be available where required.

Unless you absolutely have to, I wouldn't recommend taking a bus in Alice or Darwin. If you live there obviously you have a car, if you are visiting you will need a car.

And if you don’t have a car, you can just take someone else’s.
I used to catch the bus in Darwin without any issues. I was just working there short term so no car and was fine for getting about for shopping.
