Company Puchased My Private Information Online. Have You Experienced This?

Hi,

I was contacted by a real estate recently, although I don't own/rent, & it turns out they got my information from a website called 'ID4ME' where you can purchase peoples private information (Name, phone, address etc..). Apparently the companies get the info from terms and conditions, which I new the 'term and conditions' mentions providing information to third parties. I always assumed it was email address for marketing (hence spam emails) but never thought it was this level of personal information.

Has anyone experienced this before? Have you managed to get your information removed from these companies? Can anything be done about this?

This is inevitable when providing information online, there's always a T&C clause somewhere that says they can use your data.

You can request your details to be removed: https://id4me.biz/removefromdatabase

Can anything be done about this?

Yep, refuse to do business with anyone that cold calls based on buying your details.

i would try to waste the time of the REA.

"oh i'm looking to sell my house at 123 Sesame Street, can you come and do an evaluation at 5:34pm?. My parents are also looking to sell their property at (other side of state) as well"

Wait until you have to supply all your details just to use the website with how much private information is floating out there.

Wait till op finds out what happens to all their information on social media and whatever information they hand over when purchasing anything online. Basically anything they sign up to in fact…

    • I don't provide personal information to social media. The information I provide when buying online, I already knew it was passed onto third parties (as mentioned in my op) but didn't realise the extent.

  • https://www.winningedge.com.au is another scam company that sells your details to crooked REA

  • Yes.

  • I got a Christmas card delivered to my new address from a different real estate agent to who I bought my house from. No idea how they got my address, I'd only enquired about a few houses they had for sale and only gave them my phone number and email.

  • Big industry in selling leads.

You know those instagram ads where they give you a free ebook or spreadsheet to get your information then sell you a service or they could just on sell the information.

I always laugh at those ads where they will tell you where all the real estate hotspots are for free. Until they keep calling you to try to sell you a service that will then sell you a property and basically make a chain of money that is so much better than actually investing in property.

    • Big industry in selling leads.

      The leads are weak.

      • Of course. I always add one with dodgy name and number.
