Thanks OP, bought 2. Any deals on pens?

    • Got 2 myself.

Mechanical pencils have become a big thing at my kids school recently! Was super shocked when my kid asked for one

  • What is a good lead that I can use with this?

    • +2

      0.5mm

    • I meant a good brand.

      • I've used Pentel and Staedtler. Both are good.

    • +2

These are good. Check camels for sale pricing.

Yes. Noting their coloured ones still suck. I tried green, red, blue (not the packaging colour, the actual lead colour) iirc

    Bought 4 thank OP

  • Would this be cheaper in japan? Going there in a few mths so not sure better to buy when there physically…

    • Not necessarily. Last time I saw them selling these for around ¥900-¥1000ish. You can probably find the newer version of the auto-advance in store there, however.

      • +4

I did very surface level research on the auto advance version and I'm not sure if it would be worth it. Apparently it's made to extend the lead every 400 times you lift the pencil which happens quite often writing in Japanese, but not as regularly when writing English. Whilst the amount it spits out can be adjusted, I'm happy to just click the top when I need more lead, though others may have different preferences

A moot point considering the original deal is sold out but I already wrote this comment so I'll be damned if I'm not gonna post it

        • Wow! Trust the Japanese to come up with something as ridiculous as that. Still cool though

    • +1

      In my case, yes cheaper.

I got the Kurutoga Metal at Loft for 2750 yen.

  • Do they come in 0.7mm ?

  • +1

not available for $8 back to $14

  • Every mech pencil I've had, soon starts to not hold leads tight and they push back inside on writing. Am I doing something wrong?

    • +3

      You're pushing too hard….
Or potentially try a different kind of lead refill that may have a coarser surface that will mean it will grip more to it and prevent it from sliding back in under pressure.

      Yes honestly it's just you

    • +1

this one is especially back designed. does not even last for a month. Mine already broken. literally used less than 5 times, only

  • +3

I bought the rOtring pencil and pen in the last ozb deals and honestly I just keep going back to those. They're built like a tank and I reckon they'll survive a few generations of use.

    • If it's the Rotring pencil with the thin tube where the lead comes out, be careful not to drop it as it bends and breaks easily rendering the pencil useless.

      • Just noticed that! Thanks for the tip.

    • The Rotrings are great, especially the 800 series. The Pentel GraphGear is also very good

  • A nice pencil but for me, 0.5mm is too thin and the lead breaks easily. I prefer 0.7mm and 0.9mm - and 2mm, but that needs to be sharpened.

    • 1.5mm ftw

      • +1

I have a Pentel 1.3mm pencil that I use to mark up my flying charts. I like that size because it gives nice thick and easily seen lines.

    • I reckon don't stress. The Japanese are pretty efficient in their own quirky way.

    • Yeah same. Very odd. Not worried

    • Yes I got this for both of my orders…

    • Amazon updated order status to "processing refund" but the pencil arrived today. The order status now shows "delivered" and the pending refund is gone.
