Any recommendations for glass food storage?

    • I’m also looking for this! The vast majority seem to have plastic lids. Which does seem better when microwaving your food since the food doesn’t touch the lid. But I discussed this with a friend who suggested perhaps since the lid is still heating up and all the condensation collects on the lid and then drips back down on the food then maybe theoretically that’s still not great. Which seems a logical theory to me.
Maybe the glass lids make things more difficult to seal well? Not sure why nobody seems to be making all glass ones.

I also don’t really like the lids with vents since those seem not to seal so well. So that makes it even harder to find something good.
Someone suggested ikea glass containers. From memory I think they had bamboo lids. Or maybe that was another one I saw. Can’t remember for sure. But I’m starting to think maybe the bamboo might be good.

But ideally I want the sistema clear plastic ones that have the dark grey clips that seal super well, just in all glass. Nobody seems to make these!

      • I’ve the ikea glass containers. There’s one other variant which has plastic lids with a rubber interior

      • Bamboo lids are problematic in humid locations.

        ( mould)

        • My bamboo ikea lids warped and curled up. They can't close in an airtight manner. I returned and got the plastic ones. When I hear up food in the microwave I use a separate large plastic cover which hopefully doesn't leech into my food.

I’m happy with the Pyrex snapware stuff.

I just microwave with paper towel covering the container without the lid. While it doesn’t trap as much heat, I don’t find the difference meaningful for reheating food.

        • Same, the snapware and bake n store Pyrex containers

My guess is that it's harder to mould glass within practical tolerances so that it will still seal well or accommodate expansion from heat.
Lids are the most "mobile" component, the more it's handled and pried, higher chance of breakage.
Probably a lot heavier than plastic.
