Merlin AI Assistant (Access to Multiple Pro- & Plus-Level AI Models) US$60/Year (A$95) @ Merlin AI

140

Came across this deal for Merlin AI which uses a number of different models for $5 USD a month, payable upfront as $60 USD or ~$95AUD depending on your credit cards xfer rates.

Merlin AI is a versatile AI assistant that consolidates multiple leading AI models, including those from OpenAI, Claude, and Gemini, into a single platform, presenting a cost-effective alternative to individual AI subscriptions.

It offers tiered pricing: a limited Free plan, a comprehensive Pro plan for $19/month, and a special $5/month offer with reduced usage limits suitable for moderate users. All plans operate under a combined fair use policy, where usage across all features is interconnected.

Core features include Merlin Magic for optimal model selection, Crafts for generating diagrams and websites, and Projects for research management. The platform also supports deep research with web browsing and data analysis with Analyst Mode.

Image generation is supported by models like FLUX 1.1 Pro and Ideogram. A powerful Chrome extension can summarize web pages and videos and assist with writing on platforms like Gmail, X, and LinkedIn.

That said, the FAQ states.

How is Merlin accessible in $5?
The current Merlin subscription in $5 is a slightly more affordable and smaller version of Merlin Pro. It costs $60 per year (i.e. $5 per month). It’s designed for light to moderate users who want access to key Pro features like Deep Research, Integrations, and Pro Finder at a lower cost tailored for their usage.

Is the $5 plan same as $29 plan?
The $5 plan gives you access to the same features as $29 plan, but with about one-fifth of the Pro usage. For $5 a month, you get 5 times more access than the free version of Merlin, and about half the usage of ChatGPT Plus at only a quarter of the cost.

Is this plan unlimited?
No, the $5 plan is not unlimited. It includes the same features as Merlin Pro ($29) but with limited usage, i.e. about one-fifth of Pro's limits. It's ideal for light to moderate use, not heavy or frequent usage.

What if I hit limits while using Merlin?
Merlin offers a top-up option, so if you reach your usage or feature limits, you can buy extra credits anytime. You can find more details in our Fair Use Policy.

Why should I not opt for ChatGPT Plus instead?
ChatGPT Plus is four times more expensive, and if you’re a light to medium user, you’re likely not using it enough to get your money’s worth. Merlin AI gives you a more affordable way to access powerful models, features, and AI tools.

  • Seems like a good deal.

  • +5

Marketed as a deal but just a cheaper, limited-use version of their $29 plan. AI wants your money and data

    • They already have your data anyway!

      • They want to stop your ability to think about yourself

        • +1

Ultimately, we make them to help us stoping thinking. They write books, they summarise books, they replaced your drivers, they even make money for us etc….we will become zombies!

        • +1

That's similar to "the Chinese make cheap stuff"; it's because we asked them to.

        • so our goals are in alignment

        • If you were old enough you’d say that about the:
          -Calculator
          -GPS
          -Search Engine

          • -1

@FredAstair: Of course those are more likely to be correct and show references

            • @Abaddon: Ah yes.. calculators always show me their references.

Along with the car making long distance possible. But hey…. Cars want to stop your ability to exercise.

        • +1

I asked chatGPT and they said they didn't want that at all, so I lit some incense at their shrine and thanked them

          • @Morbo66: Always thank them. Hopefully they'll remember you during the cleanse.

      • +1

Afaik, in. Chatgpt plus you can opt out of allowing them to use your data to train the model, it's just not ON by default

    • Like Cashrewards, Shopback, Uber, Google, etc.

      What's your point?

  • Quick question, I just cant wrap my head around it. Why do plans like this cost less than just chatgpt?

    • +2

Because they allow less usage than ChatGPT?

    • Why are some energy retailers cheaper than others - buying customers or more efficient or privately owned or data capturing, etc.

      It's the same thing.

I tried (paid) Monica AI, which is very similar to this. I could use quite a few (paid) AIs within it, but with no real function of their paid functions. For example, Chat GPT in Monica does not allow me to set up custom Chat GPT or Project, like "stand-alone" Chat GPT Plus.

I have this. I use it all the time, frequently using the heavy duty models. I never hit the limit. Being able to get a different answer from a different model is great.

Not for everyone - but for most people it's more than enough and VERY decent at this price.

    • +1

It's all very new to me and probably won't use 90% of the functions that it can do but gave serious thought to subbing to ChatGPT but was baulking at the $30/month price.. $60/yr for a light mode seemed like a win to me.

    • can it generate google sheets?

  • No voice mode?

  • If you're interested in supporting local developers, I highly recommend @UltimateAI service for $9.90 a month. I’m not sure if there are any spots available at the moment, but the service is excellent and he consistently keeps his tools up to date.

    • UltimateAI is invite only. Do you have an invite you can share?

      • Just PM the founder @UltimateAI

  • What’s the difference between this one and Copilot from Microsoft?

    • This one doesn't log your pron site visits with Bill Gates?

  • I have this and like it!
I believe it renews at the same price.

At this price it is a terrific deal.

  • What infrastructure are they using? I assume they don't have their own tens of thousands of high performance GPUs.

    • Might be an app to send prompts to utilise other ai rather than solve it themselves. Assistant

Would suggest using duck.ai for a free and more private, but more feature limited alternative

    • Can you elaborate that private part? Free and private… Odd combo

      • It's made by duckduckgo, they go into detail on their privacy policy here https://duckduckgo.com/duckai/privacy-terms. Anonymized and not used to train AI is how they briefly put it. I mainly use it to get access to Claude

        • Access to Claude? I wonder how to do it?

  • Is anyone using Openrouter? How do these per month services compare?

My use isn’t heavy so Openrouter has been good for me. Still on my initial $10 recharge after a couple of months.

    So…

Will people start AI relationships (as it will learn to say exactly what you want to hear). Then instead of the pain of childbirth..we just make a robot AI kid…

    Then we go instinct?

  • Depending on your use case, consider this: https://www.stacksocial.com/sales/1minai-pro-plan-lifetime-s…

US$80 lifetime subscription. Uses most of the major AI providers. It's 4,000,000 credits a month and credits used based on which AI is used and what task, gives estimates prior. Most I've ever used is 600,000 credits in a month, so probably could've even got the basic plan (though the stacked up credits may come in handy when free Gemini Pro expires)

Obviously general considerations about "lifetime"… But so far I've had it around 9 months and could've gone with the US$30 plan, so that would already be worthwhile for medium-low use.

    GPT-4o, GPT-4 Turbo, GPT-4, GPT-3.5 (OpenAI)
Claude 3 Opus, Claude 3 Sonnet, Claude 3 Haiku, Claude 2.1, Claude Instant 1.2 (Anthropic)
Gemini Pro 1.5, Gemini Pro 1.0 (GoogleAI)
    Llama 3, Llama 2 (MetaAI)
    MistralAI
    Command (Cohere)

Given this is limited too, I would say you'll run into similar usage restrictions. Depends more on if you want to risk it with a 'lifetime' company or not, but you only need them to stay alive ~1-3 years to be at a profit.

Gemini appears to be ~120 credits/second, so that's over 10 hours a month of AI processing on the highest plan. That's a really hefty amount of AI. The image generators/variators are fixed prices and a little costly.

    • Do we need to use their app, or can we link this to a self hosted version like OpenWebUI and just do API calls?

      • +1

        Their website afaik

        • Thanks for the reply

  • I don't see much value in these AI consolidators, when the open source Noi exists and has more features, like prompting multiple AIs simultaneously.

Cheaper access to "better" AI models such as Claude Sonnet 3.7 and GPT 4o also isn't appealing when it is only via a web interface/app, when you can access better models like Claude Sonnet 4 for free.
