Right in time for some VA-Qatar booking :D

    Bonus was instant.

  • I've always wondered, is this a good use of AMEX points?
I've got about 350k AMEX points and unsure how best to use them. I'm keen on international travel with my partner, but happy to use them domestically as well.

Any recommendations on how people best use their AMEX points?

    • When there is bonus points offer, Amex to Velocity to Krisflyer nets you more Krisflyer points than transferring from Amex directly to Krisflyer. Depending on your destination Singapore Airlines have good reward availability from Australia.

    • Best use of amex points is to transfer them to where you can find a rewards seats. If you travel a lot with virgin this is a good offer, it's also transferable to Singapore via Velocity and this bonus is good again

Qantas is being devalued from next week so it could go either way with them but Q is promising more reward seats availability

For anyone considering a SQ redemption directly with SQ using Amex points.

Example: You want to get 10,000 KrisFlyer miles.

Option A: Transfer Amex MR → KrisFlyer directly
    * 3:1 ratio → you need 30,000 Amex MR points

Option B: Transfer Amex MR → Velocity (with bonus), then → KrisFlyer
Let’s assume a 15% bonus for a typical Amex Ascent card

    • Start with 26,958 Amex MR points
    • 26,958 Amex MR → 13,479 Velocity (2:1 ratio)
      *15% bonus = +2,022 Velocity
      *Total = 15,501 Velocity

    • Convert 15,501 Velocity → 10,000 KrisFlyer (1.55:1 ratio)

You only used 26,957 Amex MR points, not 30,000 :)

My experience transferring from Virgin points to KrisFlyer has been instant, too.

  • In my Amex velocity card auto transfer is already enabled to velocity, which is happening every end of the month that means I am not eligible? Also if anyone have any idea on process to disable auto transfer to velocity so that we can use this offer ?

You have a velocity dedicated or branded card, this won't apply to you.

      • Ack, thanks for clarification :)

  • Should we hold ? Any DP more than 20% bonus ?

    • @dannn11 I was debating the same thing, looking at history it seems rare it goes above 20%. But hard to predict the future I guess.

      • Same boat. Would like to know if 20% is the maximum they have given in the past

  • Bit the bullet and transferred. How long does it realistically take to appear in my velocity account

    • how long did it take?

Apparently velocity has an issue transferring points. Amex said that the points will be back in a few days

    • following this as well. Thanks

      • Got the velocity points instantly. Bonus points should arrive in few weeks time.

  • Didn't Amex used to offer 50% bonus points around last year?

Not sure if 20/15% is the new 'standard' for these kind of offers but yeah.
