Seiko Prospex SRPK43K King Turtle 'Night Vision' - Sapphire/Automatic $599 ($574 with Signup Bonus) Delivered @ Watch Depot

140

If you want a watch with superb stealth looks and awesome lume this is a ripper. I’ve seen one in the metal and it wears quite nicely and, boy, does the lume shine! Sapphire crystal, workhorse day/date movement with trouble-free operation for years, proper ISO certified diver’s watch and 200m water resistance - there’s a lot to like about this one.

Similar price to the SB deal in Feb, and since there’s nobody to fly the Watch Depot flag anymore I figured I’d chuck up a deal. There’s a $25 signup bonus as well and this one arrives promptly at your inbox. Even better if you have an unused Shiels coupon floating around.

Alternatives for WD if you prefer to shop elsewhere. As always, hit that ‘Price Match’ button in the page:

    Watson’s Jewellers - https://watsonsjewellers.com.au/products/seiko-prospex-king-…

Starbuy have a blue dial PADI version in silver S/S for a bit more - https://starbuy.com.au/products/seiko-king-turtle-padi-mens-…

  • Bought one, I have been keeping an eye on king turtles, this ticked the boxes. Thanks OP!

  • I’ve been checking the homepage for WD on and off for months , since rosebank left there is hardly ever any stand out deals now - other than knee jerk price matches mainly from SB

    • I have their Daily Deals page in an open tab, next to SB’s StarDeals tab, and check it each day. They seem to mostly do the fashion quartzes, though, but the weekend deals are often good. I figured since RB isn’t here any more we need a bit more variety than the usual SB/Amazon/AE deals. (Speaking of AliExpress, I had the SD1970 pop up last night on my coins deal finder for ~US$41. Was very tempted but didn’t pull the trigger.)

I remember checking for weeks , clicking into their home page sale link and for weeks it had the same ugly ass Coutura and a bunch of other fashion quartz - I came close to madness.

On the whole I feel also been some time since a crazy Starbuy weekend sale. Most weeks have been pretty disappointing imo.

    • Rosebank is no more?

Yeah doesn't seem like a heap of things to buy instantly these days, or some are higher end pieces.

I got this one back in the days of RB postsz scratches my black DLC itch. Great smaller size too.

Other than that, the last things I've got was that Seiko 5 reissue hurricane $285 and the zodiac. Most weeks nothing too exciting there.

I reckon a lot of the Seiko presage, turtles, tuna stock is gone and retailers are sitting on the remaining ones for good coin.

      • Some nice new releases in the last couple of months though, now there is the wait for the inevitable discounting to kick in.

        • Yeah not bad, the retro re-releases are good. I'm not usually a Seiko 5 fan but grabbed that one (and got the Field GMT with crown at 3 o'c. It just seems they they flog the variants and releases to death, in short of releasing a real SKX007 replacement which is what everyone wants! it wouldn't be that hard, 200m WR and screw down crown.

Some of those new expensive divers are hideous (with the octagonal shape bezel thing).

    • Rosebank left? :-(

Is this a high yield investment?

It’s no 1994 2 door Toyota Camry coupe in red with under 69,000km on the clock.

I'm sure you could set the bar higher and get a supera. Still pretty rare though.

"A 1994 Toyota Camry SE Coupe 2D has depreciated $148 or 9% in the last 3 years and has a current resale value of $1,400 and trade-in value of $613."

Now is the time to buy.
It can only appreciate from here.

          HOW NICE IS IT

we are all in debt to @Gunnar for bringing this to our attention

@Jimothy Wongingtons: Would actually be pretty hard to find one, all the red ones are surely pink and dead by now.

It would kind of been nice to get an S14 when they were reasonably priced and not all thrashed & crashed about 15 years ago, haha.

            • @G-rig: Between 10-20 years ago was prime time for buying JDM (depending on what you wanted) to get a long term keeper

              • @Gunnar: yeah 15 years is between 10 and 20 :)

Agree, some are worth quite a bit now (RX-7s and Skylines etc).

@Jimothy Wongingtons: Well today your lucky day for learning again - Toyota Camry Solara:
            https://www.drive.com.au/caradvice/yes-toyota-really-did-mak…

Personally I prefer the aesthetic of the wide body 2 door but…

            • +2

@Gunnar: Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry’s and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec exhaust system.

  • I bought the King Turtle Save the Ocean special edition and sold it later. I thought I would be fine with the cyclops but I was wrong. It annoyed me everytime I looked at it. So, if you are thinking of buying it, you might want to consider that.

But it can be removed pretty easily with some heat if you're game. Just don't apply too much. Watch some YT vids.

I did my Invicta pro-diver years ago with a lighter that produces more of a high pressure flame.

      • I was tempted many times to remove it myself but at the end I didn't want to risk it and sold it for the same price as I bought it.

    • Yeah you can remove it but the date may look pretty small and funny in a different way.
I think you'd appreciate it on a date only (like on my JDM mini turtle), but agree the pill-shaped cyclops is maybe a bit much.

    • What made it worse was that the cyclops was slanted. People need to be aware that misaligned bezel and slanted cyclops on Seiko watches are not uncommon.

  • Did anybody else get this? I received it today from Watch Depot and strangely even though the tag had the SPRK43K1 model number, the day wheel is Kanji instead of English. I wiuld have thought this woild only come with the JDM version (SBDY127). The description on Watch Depot also doesnt mention it having a Kanji wheel which would be important for most people.

    • I'd consider it a win, should have english and kanji, like most Seikos and orients. Perhaps it is a J model?
