Avoid British car, one of the worse reliability car, repairs costs is more than Merc or BMW.

    • Even compare to Byd?

What if the 'british' car is made in China?

      Doh !!!!

BMW owns the Mini brand. Specifically, the BMW Group acquired the Mini brand in 2000 after purchasing the Rover Group, which previously owned it. The modern Mini, known for its retro design, is produced by BMW since 2001

In summary, most MINIs sold in Australia—including the 3-Door and 5-Door Hatches and Convertibles—are made in the UK, while the Countryman now comes from Germany. Electric MINIs are primarily made in China, though production will expand to the UK starting in 2026.

      • Yes. The ev ones are made in China by gmw. Quite interesting actually. I wonder if the mini ev and gmw ora are basically the same car (except the look of course).

        • +1

They're built on the same platform but there seems to be a fair bit of variation. The Ora is bigger in every dimension (particularly length, 4.2m long vs 3.8m for the mini) and they look to use different battery and motor tech, mini has more storage, charges faster and has more power available.

Looks like BMW did more than drop a different shell on it, but I wouldn't expect it to be massive different. My mum still wants an ev mini rather than a gwm though, despite that she could use the extra room in the Ora.

I believe the BMW X1 and Mini EV are the same underneath the body.

    • Its a BMW and the B48 engine is pretty solid. They now rank above average for reliability.

    Smart Salary

Had an absolutely terrible experience with them, they suddenly stopped making claims to the salary sacrifice provider (in my case Remserv) and even after I notified them took another 7 weeks to acknowledge their error. This all happened when we had a newborn at home so I didn't notice my pay packet was about $550 healthier.

Then they decided, without consultation, to triple the lease repayments to make up the difference and bring it back on schedule. I ended up having to take them to AFCA and got a settlement in my favour. An absolute shitshow and based on that experience cannot recommend anyone do business with them.

Thanks for the feedback. I can also get husband to do novated. I will avoid Smartsalary if I can.

      • +1

I'm confident it was an isolated incident & hope they would have changed their processes as AFCA castigated them for their complete failure. They are the largest in Australia so it can't all be bad, but maybe proceed with caution.

going to add I also had this same problem in April 2025 with smart salary w/ angle finance. I wonder if that was the same period?

payments were being subtracted from pay but they did not end up paying the finance company and i got a nice default notice 2 months later.

they also decided that I had to increase my payment but I complained and they just ended up having a negative balance for awhile before it started being positive again lol.

Honestly hope AI or someone with a better tach stack could run these companies off a cliff. the grift is unreal

    • Isn’t having an extra $550 for a newborn a good thing?

Checked out the new countryman SE, very nice car but too expensive at around 80k driveway for top spec. Only around ~320km real world battery range too. Love the interior though and it looks so nice, I’d take one over the X1 anyday, but maybe a used one in a few years after they depreciate a bit.

    • It says 433km. Where does 320km come from?

      • +2

When you use AC and whatever else in the car, you don’t get close to the official figure, the salesman even mentioned this. According to Google it’s actually 340-400km real world range, all depends on how you’re driving and what you’re using I suppose.
