So I don't hire cars often and if I do, I don't usually sign up as a member as I would usually shop around for whatever is cheapest. However, I recently signed up to AVIS with an AWD code that was given to me by my MC credit card saying we get to enjoy 10% off the base rate. Perfect! I've got a trip coming up to NZ.
I signed up to AVIS and got a quote for $861.48 for a Hyundai Kona at the car selection page. I went through the whole process up until the payment page but cannot see any discount being applied. So I thought, well there's other two reasons: (1) the discount applies when I make payment at the end and presumably will show up in my invoice, or (2) the discount is already applied to the quote.
To test it out, I decided to open up a separate browser and searched for the same thing on AVIS without signing in. AVIS then comes up with the following quote for the same criteria - $861.48 Pay Later or $718.55 Pay Now (due to a 'up to 20% off base rate promo').
Well this is stupid, the Pay Now promo doesn't show up when I sign in. And I can get a bigger discount if I don't sign in.
Why doesn't the better discount/promo apply? Am I missing something?
They want to make as much money as possible.
