  • I have the barista pro. Worth upgrading ?
Anyone with xp with both ?

    • +4

Not really, unless you buy the duo and sell the grinder. Dual boiler + good grinder would be an upgrade, otherwise using the breville grinder that the dual boiler comes with would yield similar results as your barista pro.

Edit the person above me typed much faster and more concise ^

I got similar, barista pro and Oracle (older manual one which is basically this duo in one)

Look for the dual boiler on its own or get this duo and sell off the grinder. The grinder even with the updated Burrs is still meh.

Your barista pro has the same burrs so if you're happy with that grinder, then this one would be fine and streamline your work flow.

Dual boiler will give you an more even espresso I think due to more precise control on temp vs the barista pro, you also get the bigger 58mm portafilter as well.

If you don't mind the heat up of the dual boiler and you plan to upgrade your grinder later, then this duo will be much better in the long run.

If you use all stock standard stuff with little puck prep and not going down the rabbit hole, stick with the barista pro, you'll get basically the same level of coffee. The only pluses in this scenario is you can extract and steam at the same time.

As others have stated, your best option is to sell the included grinder unused for at least $200, and buy a proper grinder (eg df64 for ~$600).

So all out cost would be approx $1600 for a new dual boiler plus a good grinder.

Got the la specialista touch this week for $500 heaps good!

    • Can you share where you found it at that price?

      • +1

        Probably market place.

        • Yessir. Brand new! Was a gift for someone didnt want it.. Saved heaps. Really easy and guides you through whole process to create perfect coffee.

I once found a dollar in my shoe

      • Was it promised to you 5000 years ago?

  • Plastic tubing.

    • -1

Oh boohoo honestly. Micro particles blah blah jesus

    • +1

Every modern house gets plastic tubing throughout no extra charge 🤣

    • legit remark as hot water/steam goes through these. but how else do u get ur fix? gets complicated. i try to avoid plastic to touch my food where i can tho.

  • Their new dual boiler is out soon but it unfortunately has an inbuilt grinder and at it's price point ,you might as well by a nice Italian or German made machine.

    • +1

It's already out, but that's the oracle dual boiler. Different machine altogether to this

    • Jesus Christ…. For $4299 you're in the realm of a profitec pro 600 and almost there for an ecm synchronika ii… You'd never ever buy a Breville above $2000. Ones solid stainless steel at 30+kg and ones plastic lol night and day difference.

  • They have well in excess of 15 units at Costco Epping

  • With buys like this from Costco, is it worth going to the warehouse to purchase or just buy online? Any benefit of either way?

    • Still a big pile there this afternoon. (22nd Epping VIC)

  • Is there any other coffee machine - grinder combo at less than 1500$ that will be better than this - looking at reliability/maintenance and quality coffee.

    • +1

If I were buying something to keep, I'd get a different grinder but the same machine. A DF54 or similar would be better than this
