I have a similar model and love it. Especially the long battery life on the receiver. not a wifi model, but I prefer it that way.

It wouldn't let me ship to my regional address, so I sent it to a friend in Melbourne.

    Note - these aren't charged by USB-C

Having the baby monitor/camera being able to be charged by USB-C means you can be more mobile around the house while monitoring bub

    • +1

But the monitor has a great battery life. It can last 24 hours on all the time. Generally, we charge ours at night when on the bedside table, then use it on mobile during the day.

    • +1

Yeah I explained in the description that this has elite battery life. It lasts the entire day no worries. Absolute non-issue

    • -3

Don't know why you're getting downvoted. All devices like this should be USB-C nowadays.

      • -1

        I swear USB-C is a cult.

Thanks to the EU we'll always be stuck with USB-C now. No company will innovate with new technologies with ports anymore because they need the blessing of the all-mighty EU to actually use the technology in their phones.

Short term convenience from standardisation that hinders the future.

        • Why would you want 50 different charging methods like the old days with specific charger plugs for each device?

USB C can be used either way unlike micro USB, can transfer up to 80Gbps and power up to 240w at the moment. What more in terms of innovation do you need?

What exactly more do you need for 99% of consumer electronics at this point in time?

I would rather have 1 port type than several for all my devices.

          • +1

@HoochieMamma: Like PainToad said, it's short term. Long term, your electric car will probably be charged the same way you charge your electric tooth brush.

Standardization is great for the moment, but not future proof. If the consumer is happy coasting by with USB-C limitations, then why would the Big CorporationsTM bother to invest in further, better developments if there's minimal financial gain to be had?

Your car can always go faster, your house can always be bigger, your USB power delivery services can always be improved. Most people will eventually hit a level they're happy with. That doesn't make my MG3 a Maserati. It does what I need it to do, but there's always something better around the corner…unless someone comes in and mandates that everyone drive the same MG3. If that were to happen, no one would develop a better car and we'd all be stuck going 60 at best up a slight incline.

And this is just a rant on my phone, I hate typing on my phone so it'd be a bit better put together had I been on the computer, but anyhoodles, this is all before you get into the fact that most people just plug any old USB C into anything and then over or under charge it and vastly shorten their battery life, if not worse. The mountains of 2 cent Aliexpress cables, things shipping without power bricks to cut costs, it's going to lead to a lot of people breaking a lot of things over the years. My 2007 PSP is still going strong with its original battery, and it's original proprietary charging cable though.

Okay consider this. In the 90/00s home theatre setups were a nightmare. We had AUX, component, composite, Optical, Super-Video etc. cables.

Lets say the EU stuck their noise in back then and made a law that all AV equipment must use Super-Video.

Great. Things are standardized and simple.

But then manufactures are locked into only offering Super-Video. So the much superior HDMI never gets traction.

This is where we we are now with mobile charging. Simplicity in the present but limiting future progress.

I would rather have 1 port type than several for all my devices.

And you as a consumer always had the option of only buying products that have USB-C. Demand would have eventually made a pseudo-standard without locking us in for the future.

    • We have a VTech something or other, has a proprietary charger…just plug it in at some point throughout the day when not in use. Takes an hour or so to charge, lasts all night for us. It's not that hard a task to manage.

We have a similar model (mother in law also has the same) and its fantastic. Highly recommend. The monitor has excellent battery life.

  • Thanks for sharing, I've been looking for a monitor/ some monitors for a week or 2. I bought the single, then regretted getting just 1 camera so I bought the twin pack as well (even though 2 singles were cheaper and I could have paired 2 cameras with a back up monitor)

The SM50 on Aliexpress seem to be a Ozbargain favourite, but I couldn't pull the trigger.

    • I haven't heard good things about the dual camera system.

  • Hope their security is better now…

    • This unit does not have wifi, irrelevant.

    • Feedback on that system is mixed. A lot of folk don't recommend it

      • It's the same system right? Just with an additional camera

        • I can't remember the issue, but something to do with displaying two streams on a small screen. Hopefully you don't have that issue.

          • @diggityfish: Ah okay.

To be fair, pretty much every baby monitor gets crap reviews.

    • FWIW I bought this on sale since it was still cheaper than the single cam model (missed the original deal).

I've been using just the one camera atm and it works fine. I haven't put through the wringer yet but from what I can tell the 2nd camera features are additive. There's side-by-side and 'patrol' modes (patrol: the camera feed switches every X seconds), which I cannot talk to as I haven't really used, but they don't really have any impact when just paired to a single camera.

At an equal (or in this case lower) price I would get the 2 cam model again. The deal is now expired but hopefully this helps someone in the future :P

      /cc @diggityfish

      • I just sent mine back to Amazon.

I bought the single and dual cam options. Camera quality wasn't great, I didn't like how the sound went off when moving the camera and the monitor had dotted lines across it (probably for a reason).

I ended up buying the Ozbargain favourite SM50 from Aliexpress (2 camera set up was about $120) and it's better. Clear picture & instant set up. It's the same as the highly recommended Tweety Cam, without the branding.

  • I never used mine when kids were little. Sort of great in theory but anything crazy im getting up.

  • Looks like it is expired now.

These things get hacked easily btw - we had a creep hack our V-Tech system via the wifi connection. Thankfully we caught it early

Its traumatised me for life on these internet reliant baby monitors.

    • how did you find out?

    • This isn't wifi connected. As noted in the description.

  • to all that don't know..Ali express SM50 for $90, save yourself the hassle of any other junk monitors

    • Is there an app to view on phone ?

    • Do you have a link to the one you bought?

    • I sent back my Vtech and bought the SM50. Prefer it much more

  • I have been using Tapo c210 as the baby monitor camera, using a spare phone or tablet as a monitor and it work really well

    • I got one of those and tried it but found it a poor experience. Prefer having a monitor and not using wifi.

      • What was poor about it? Pls share more details.

        • +1

It's an app on a phone. It's just mediocre.

It's so much better having a receiver that has 17 hours battery that just always works. No wifi required.

Both my wife and I decided to dump the tapo wifi camera.
