Dual 24" or 27" Monitor Setup with 65W PD over USB C/Thunderbolt That Can Be Daisy Chained

Hi, I was hoping someone might be able to help.

I'm looking for a dual monitor setup for my sis in law, she teaches English as a second language from home twice a week and wants to have a dual screen setup that's easily connectable to her Lenovo yoga lappy, that has Thunderbolt 4.

What would be the cheapest option in both 25" and 27", 1920 and 2550 lines respectively. Or anything in-between.

I suggested the Dell U2724DE and D to her, but that comes in at $1k total. Shes looking for around $400-500… not even sure if that's possible without an external dock?

Thank you in advance :)

If you’re after a budget route then it’s a USB-C dock with HDMI ports. Some of them have pass through charging too.

    • Thanks for that, didn't release you can get power pass through. Will keep that in mind 👍

  • 250 each probably too low you can cgeck officework sort from cheapest and find one with daisy chain.
    Or maybe second hand.
Or just get a dock that can handle 2 montiors plus give power.

    • Might find one that matches her 24" Lenovo that has HDMI input only and go the dock with power pass through route, thanks

  • You won’t find Thunderbolt 4 monitors with daisy chain in that price range. A dock and a couple of cheap monitors might just scrape in under $500, but even then you’re pushing it.

    • OK so from what I just had a look at usb-C is really USB4…. this can handle 1off 4k@60Hz… so 2off 1920x1080. once you go to 2off 27" 2550x1440, you'd need Thunderbolt4?

      Both can pass the 65W

So 2off 24" is more in her budget

  • What about two Philips 243B1? USB C with DP out for daisy chain and built in docking station?

  • You don't need a monitor that is TB4 capable. My work uses plenty of Dell monitors with one daisy chained through the other, one having a built in hub and the other just being a simple screen. It's a simple and cost effective 1 cable solution, charges the laptop, connects it to both screens and gives a bunch of USB ports as the host screen acts like a USB hub. Options below.

    24 inches
Monitor 1 (contains USB C hub, connected to your laptop)

Monitor 2 (Daisy chained via Displayport to monitor 1)

    27 inches
Monitor 1 (contains USB C hub, connected to your laptop)
    https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-pro-27-plus-usb-c-hub-m…

Monitor 2 (Daisy chained via Displayport to monitor 1)
    https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-pro-27-plus-monitor-p27…

    Both 24 inches = $619.30
    Both 27 inches = $728.20

I'm sure there's some Dell discount codes floating around somewhere to bring that down.

    • Thanks for that, I'll show here the 24" Dells too. And thanks for the reminder, she's w TAFE so she'll be able to get 15% off

      That'll bring the 2off 24" down to $527 😊

2 x Kogan monitors + ex govt dock will get you sorted for under $500.

I use Australian Computer Traders for ex govt stock. I have a Dell laptop, a HP dock (both ex govt) and 2 x Kogan monitors (new).

Works seamlessly, only 1 x USB-C connection to the lappy. Dont know how youd go with thunderbolt though.
