A new take on the tried-and-true New Balance 550 comes with new materials and a more playful colour palette than we're used to. The combination of blue and white reminds us ever-so-slightly of Rich Paul's first version.

The shiny patent overlays are the real star of the show, finished in paired shades of blue. They contrast nicely—in both colour and texture—against the soft grey tumbled leather of the upper. The subtle touch of using an off-white rubber on the midsole does well to compliment the shoe without overpowering it.

  I would suggest trying on 550s before buying. I tried them ages ago when they were popular and it was super uncomfortable. But I do like the way they look.

    Can confirm. I've had a pair for a few years. To be fair I don't wear them every day, but they have never felt like they've broken in - even compared to other sneaks that have had the same amount of wear.

    Have never tried them but plenty of better more comfortable models. Those look a bit like kids shoes.

    Try the 2002R, 574 (half size up), or the ozbargain fav 9060.

      Yeah those are solid choices.

      If anyone's looking for a similar shoe to the 550, I'd say go for the 480 or T500.
