Yes I noticed Toniebox doesn't have bottons like a Yoto Player. But since it recently won a 2025 Australian Toy Association Award and I decided to give it a try!
Yes the bash it to go forward or backwards is very inconsistent and sometimes a nuisance but the Tony box itself is probably the best thing we ever bought for our toddler. She uses it daily during the commutes or when she is on the potty. Pretty much chooses her character and puts it on. Doesn't case for the moving forward or back to be honest (unlike mum and dad who would gladly skip the first couple stories in some of the characters)
Was surprised with how much the kids like these. Very limited functionality - no skip or fast forward for example.
It dropped to $139 last month, so that price might come back.
FYI—I considered getting it for my kids, but a review showed the "tapping" function (volume or maybe start/stop?) was inconsistent. Sometimes it needed such force, the box could be knocked off the table if a child used it.
