I think these are cool in principle.. But if the screens can't be re-used for other purposes once the actual computer either dies or becomes obsolete.. Eh? I'd rather just get a laptop and change screens as needed/overtime.

Of course the same could be same for laptops in general!

      Mac Mini is the answer.

But these are for secretaries to have at front desks to make businesses look fancy.

      • yeah if you can afford a apple studio display, nothing else comes close to use with a MacBook or Mac mini

        Pretty colours!

For businesses though, I kinda understand..? The lifecycle of the product will be longer than the lifecycle of their general IT refresh (well, for any modern, properly managed company lol) so for them it's whatever.

You could. But keep in mind to get a screen that has high colour reproduction & accuracy like a iMac, you will need to spend over a thousand.
Unless of course you don't do any editing.

Yeah. People underestimate the displays on these things.

    • You can! https://stonetaskin.com/products/stonetaskin-brand-new-diy-i…

I have done similar with my old 2019 5k Display with my M1 MacBook.

Yeahhh that's not a viable option lol. Apple should just include a HDMI in that supports the res/refresh they use, honestly.

    • I paid 2,779 for a blue one with 24gb of ram and 512gb of storage from Umart in apirl so i think this might be a good deal.

    • thats why you never buy the cheap model you max it out as much as you can if you want it to last a couple years.

These iMacs tend to last longer than most people keep monitors for.

      • pretty sure some people still have the old Apple 30 inch cinema displays (2560x1600) resolution and DVI :D they still work and still stand the test of time only 60hz monitor though.

      • Agreed, we use 10+ year old Mac minis at work, they just won't die.

  • Today I learned that Apple only sells 24 inch iMacs!

    • Far out, I thought they'd have at least 27s.

      • +1

        they do apple studio

      • Used to be. Not sure why they don't do iMac 27" anymore.

256 GB for a desktop is a joke in my opinion. I understand you can have an external hard drive attached to iMac, but 512 GB should be the bare minimum storage space.

    • So it's sufficient for a laptop?

  • +1

I reckon getting M4 Mac Mini and a 4K screen is a much more flexible set up.

  • price is showing as $2277 for me

I only stopped using my 2009 iMac in 2020. These will last for most people.
