Computer build on a 1k budget...

Got quoted 950 + installation. Accidently posted it on the wrong, sorry.

Spec:

  • Intel i5-3.50 GHZ
  • Hard Drive: 1TB HDD
  • Mother board: Asus P8H61-V3
  • VGA Card: 2G GTX 650 Gigabyte DDR5
  • Ram: 8G Single 1333 Patriot-S
  • DVD Drive: SATA DVD RW Samsung
  • SSD: 60GB
  • Windows 7 Home Premium

Not high end but is it decent?

Comments

  • search the parts on staticice.com.au and add them up. 950 less the sum of parts is the amount you're being ripped :)

  • Hey mate,
i would not recommend 60 SSD, at first it be ok but after a while with all the updates from window, you be running out of room. 120 would be the bare minimal. 240 is recommended unless you have time to move things around every few weeks/months

Your question really needs to be expanded to what you need it for?
Gaming? if it is gaming then you will need a bigger SSD so your games will run faster.

Home movie? if this is the case then i would do a simpler build or buy a second hand one.

i guess you have all the other bits and pieces e.g. monitor, keyboard, mouse, ect

could always leave the SSD out of the first build and buy it later when you have cash.

  • Just get a laptop and external monitor - easy

    That's…not a lot of information.
Some questions you need to ask the seller:

The Core i5 @3.5ghz, is that Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge?
Motherboard is an EOL (end of line product), why not spec a newer model B75 chipset motherboard?
GTX 650 is a very weak card for a $1k build — increase to GTX 660 or Radeon HD7870.

plus lots of other problems I can see in the build but can't bother critiqueing.

Have you looked at the Whirlpool Desktops Wiki yet? Plenty of suggestions in there:

    $900 ($1,300) Intel Gaming/Multi-Purpose Config

    CPU: Intel Core i5 3470 $189
    Mobo: Asrock B75 Pro3-M $70
    RAM: G.Skill Ares 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3-1866 $55
    SSD: Plextor M5S 128GB $109
    HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB (ST2000DM001) $99
GPU: Powercolor 2GB AMD Radeon HD7870 PCS+ GHz Edition $239
    Case: Sharkoon T9/T28 $69
    PSU: Antec VP550P $65
    ODD: DVD burner $19
    Peripherals: [ 23.6" LG IPS235V / Coolermaster QuickFire TK / Logitech G400 / Creative Gigaworks T20 2.0 ] (+$375)

    Total: $914 ($1,289)

    • Oh i didn't notice this build, yeah the cpu i post on here is 3470k but 128gb ssd does sound better then my 60

  • Will it be used for gaming?

  • If you can't assemble yourself; maybe get MSY to do it? They charge around $50 and other places probably cheaper. I like MSY; they're reliable for me and they do a clean setup (wires tightened together).

mrpcgeek.com.au does a build with same specs for $772 + shipping just so you have an idea of how much extra you're being charged. Links to the bits n pieces below.

    This build looks pretty bad.

I recommend you go with the build from Scrimshaw's post if you want a gaming PC.
