Refurbished XM6's have hit the market.
Since these are very new release there is zero chance you'll get a disguised new pair like *allegedly with the XM4s

I have purchased from them.
Good experience and post purchase exp. Had some tech issues and they sorted it. Was software related.
They use DHL for TVs, which are known for just being all round horrible
For smaller items like headphones and cameras they use Startrack or AusPost Express so its usually as good as it gets
(Shipping is always within 1 business day for me, bought 3 small things)Can confirm.
Waited a week and delivery date didn't show. Reached out to Sony.
Old matey from DHL rocks up next day looking like I stole the bread from his sh!t sandwich.
RETECH worked for 10% off - $503.96
Crazy how we have refurbs for the XM6 headphones now
My guess is hinge replacements
xm6 was just released in June? Refurbed already after 1 month?
Probably open box returns.
Or you can buy it new from jb commercial for around the same price. Maybe a little more. But worth it to get new for nearly the same price than to get it as seconds from this provider
Good suggestion : )
sadly, JB commercial is listing at $676.26FWIW, any of the three various model 'refurb' noise cancellation headphones I've bought from the Sony eBay store have been indistinguishable from being brand new.
I returned mine recently, so might just go as a refurb now on their ebay.
I returned mine recently
Why?
Several reasons:
1. Hate that Sony only allows two devices at a time for multi device connection (can be an iPhone specific issue) but is still shit as I like to switch between multiple apple devices. My used case is work laptop, iPhone and Macbook but unfortunately can only use two and I cannot realistically keep removing and adding 2nd device in order to use a 3rd one.
2. The sound clarity even after my favourite Eq settings is not at par with what I get from my AirPods Pro, before you say it’s not a fair comparison of buds vs headphones. I would highly recommend to try AirPods pro 2 and see for yourself. To come at this conclusion I played the same songs in XM6 and AirPods Pro 2 and oh god the sound clarity in xm6 is terrible, it is so muggy like a lot. Half of the time lyrics get overshadowed by bass. Reduce the bass then the sound is still not clear.
3. Very uncountable to wear it in the gym, the main reason I got them was I can enjoy while working out, but honestly they’re quite uncomfortable while working out and I have to keep adjusting as if they just keep moving. Maybe my jaw muscles move too much but even when I drink water it just moves and I have to re adjust (can be just me problem)
4. Sony gimmicky features that just don’t work - auto switches between noise cancellation and ambient, background and cinematic mode are highly disappointing, Eq settings have to be changed based on song preference and current system only allows 2 Eq options which is highly limiting. Sound swipe down simply doesn’t work and is so slow. Having to go Sound Connect app to even check something like battery levels.
5. Continuous maintenance. I don’t think I would pay $600 for a piece of headphone that I have to keep cleaning, I mean every single time after wearing, the black ear cups keep getting dirty with my naturally oily hands. Haven’t had this issue with any other electronics and this much maintenance is unrealistic for me.
6. My head does hurt after wearing them for a while maybe because of clamping force? Idk, they’re simply uncomfortable to wear long hours.
7. Uncomfortable experience wearing headphones with sunglasses. It basically puts a clamping force on them making it an uncomfortable experience.
8. My partner was wearing them and she encountered the haptic features being activated because of her hair, seems like most females wouldn’t have a comfortable experience with them too.
9. Unable to take phone calls with just one ear-cup in, has to be both in.can only use two and I cannot realistically keep removing and adding 2nd device
I don't have that issue… I just need to select 'connect' to the device that isn't one of the current two.
@jv: It’s still not ideal.
I use my AirPods with my iPhone, iPad, MacBook and Apple TV and they just automatically connect.
I’d buy the Sony if they did this, but as I want over ears, I am waiting for upgrade AirPods Max
- Unable to take phone calls with just one ear-cup in, has to be both in.
Lol I actually agree with all the rest but what the
All I hear is sheep noise.
Wearing any big over ear headphones is silly, can't believe anyone does it to be honest. Too hot, get sweaty, get in the way & annoying.
Appreciate the detailed review. Not sure why people are getting angsty over it, if you had a bad experience that's valid.
Just gone one from the Sony store rep brand new for 349 albeit only in black . Raised a support ticket around my xm3 which are dying and ask them for loyalty discount and they gave me the xm6 for 349
Win win
Was that for a XM6?
Yes
I have been offered only XM4 and XM5 under Special pricing unfortunately
@Uniqlymine: Oh really I had to ask can I get the xm6 and the rep was like sure . I can upload my invoice so U can ask them
Dang that’s pretty good. I asked for an upgrade for my broken XM3 in June and they would only do the XM5 for $325, no go on the XM6 at that stage.
How do you ask for upgrade?
Just jump on Sony chat and they’ll log a ticket for you. You need to supply a tax invoice and serial number of your old headphones.
@Chickenleg: Yup exactly this I was like sure I will take on the xm6 at 349 when it's 699 else where .. it's crazy to show the actual markup on these
!!@Uniqlymine: Mine was around my xm3 was not working well ie crackling sound . So I sent my serial number and proof of purchase and they offered me xm4 , xm5 and I asked for xm6 and he said sure
was the old pair purchased directly from sony?
Nope jbhifi in 2019
Thanks for the inputs, i could finally get through a rep who offered me the same.
Winning !! 349 I guess for the xm6 ? Mine arrives on Monday
Yes, 349, Xm6 Black, absolutely delighted..
@G-rig: My understanding is that its offered to ppl who have purchased Sony headsets in the past(invoice/serial number needed) who have issues with them and wanting an upgrade.
Most agents are offering XM4 and XM5 but in few cases they offered XM6.
I have these, very underwhelmed. For the price difference grab the Bose ultra or my pick would be Sonos ace. Very poor comfort and cheap build.
What’s the fascination with the WH series? They’re so overrated. Cup pads are too soft, audio quality is meh, calls sound robotic, overpriced, quality is average and they mark easily. Technics 800 and Sonos Ace are much better options.
All my Sony cans are used like thrice a year on a 10 hour flight and then chucked in a corner to not be seen again. They are definitely unmatched when it comes to ANC.
I bought the XM4s recently, as rtings rates the ANC better than the xm5s. But I fly significantly more often
I've had both, I liked the 5s better for calls and comfort. I reckon the 6 would be better than both and sound a bit more natural again. Wouldn't pay over $500.
If you fly a lot you might end up thankful having the XM4 hinges over the XM5 as well.
Yep, definitely me and my families use-case as well.
Noise cancellation level on a plane is comparable to witchcraft.
That’s still a lot for Sony XM headphones!
How much would you like to pay?
I think the statement is true for all higher end Bluetooth headphones.
Max $399 for mid range Bluetooth. If it was for regular flying, I’d get an older model.
Probably enough to spend, you're just paying for the tech not the outright sound quality but they tick all the boxes mostly. I had the XM5 for $350 they are great for that (but sold and got the Sennheiser momentum 4 for about $260)
@G-rig: Momentum 4 imo are properly good mid range headphones, compared to the xm series which their focus is on active noise cancellation.
@onlinepred: Yeah, I mainly bought them for outright sound quality, they do sound better. Ergonomics aren't as good, are hotter, ANC not nearly as good as Sony but just wear them in the office not for flying yet. Long battery is great though.
@G-rig: Yep. My work buys headphones for us every two years. My personal beoplay headphones are just over 6 years and still look new, while the work ones tend to show their age within 2 years - various boss qc and sony xm have broken before 2 years. That’s not getting into their sound either, which imo is lifeless and artificial.
Seller has lots of -ve reviews around late shipping.
