[VIC] Skybus Eastern Express (Melbourne Airport ↔ Eastern Suburbs) Introductory Fare: Adult $9.99 One-Way @ Skybus

1300

Hoping I’ve done this right, first time posting.

Skybus' Eastern Express is finally back after being paused during COVID. From 31 August, services will resume from Watsonia, Box Hill and Doncaster to/from Melbourne airport.

Intro price: $9.99 one way (normally $21 from Watsonia, $24 from Boxhill & Doncaster)
Tickets purchased are valid for 3 months after purchase.
Family and Senior fares also discounted.

Intro fares (one way):
• Adult: $9.99 (down from $21–$24)
• Family 1 (1 adult + up to 4 kids): $9.99
• Family 2 (2 adults + up to 4 kids): $19.98
• Senior: $9.99

Return: $19.98 (Intro rate)

Trip time is generally 60–80 minutes depending on departure point and traffic.

Good option if you’ve been missing the direct route or want a cheaper way to get to airport from Box Hill/Doncaster without having to take the 901 bus at Broadmeadows station or the 902 bus then transfer to the 901 from Doncaster.

Should stay this price until the SRL links to the airport in 2067

      I like your optimism.

Don't they want to profit monopoly as much as they can before the airport links completed? Most people properly just take PT to the airport with a single fare

      • What PT to the airport? 🤔

        • +3

901 bus from broadmeadows station is the bargain method.

          • +2

@wetsandwich: real bargain method is staying home

          • @wetsandwich: Whilst I usually do this, got a late flight tomorrow after work, so just decided to find the cheapest direct option from the CBD - for anyone that's looking:
Southern Cross to Tulla return, Pelago have a $31.99 deal (inc 10% off app)

the cost is going to be 15-16 dollars airport fee + myki cost isnt it? or will be flat fare ?

    (profanity) these monopoly bastards

Guess the free parking at Box Hill will get pretty full with long term travelers.

and come back with no wheels left

      • They give out fines like mofos even to the internal free parking.

My friend parked in there once, let it overnight and came back to a fine of some $70 off.

They will also apparently impound cars if they want.

        • The station carpark? I would've thought you can do no wrong if you ve got a myki fare to/ from the car? Lots of shoppers using it unfortunately though

          • @BobLim: No one parks at the Box hill commuter carpark during the day unless he/she doesn't mind waiting endlessly for a spot. The pre-7am free PT travel rush means that they get filled up very quickly at or before sunrise.

Some shoppers drop their family members off so they can shop, while he/she waits for a spot.

That is if you can find a parking.

Why TF don't we have a proper airport shuttle (as in frequent service with buses equipped with luggage racks) between Broadmeadows station and the Airport? Or between Lara and Avalon?

Without an actual airport rail line, the next best alternative is a proper airport bus service (so not the 901) between the airport and the nearest train station.

    • Don't forget the 59 tram - needs similar shuttle too.

Too many vested interests in making it as difficult as possible - the company behind Skybus and Melbourne airport obviously have an exclusive, lucrative contract going on for both parties which also contains a revenue share arrangement with the Victorian state government, so you can see why they can’t be arsed improving services and instead are happy with the status quo

It's ok, SkumBus are also monopolizing other airports like Hobart and bidding for Launceston (I believe).

If you have the misfortune of a late flight or a multi landing period the uber to the city can set you back $70 dollars.

Or you can get ripped off with a hire car at $100+ per day.

Believe it or not, straight to jail

Public transport (and any form of public facilities) in Melbourne is always an afterthought

      • -3

Melbourne is just an afterthought in general tbh

  • Expiry date?

    • 3 months after purchase. Mind services only begin on 31th August.

  • Didn't this used to go to Ringwood too?

    • Yup. That service was killed by covid.

  • Would there be a service to Southeast Melbourne?

Tried to catch this once around end of 2019 from Box Hill, bus was delayed over 2 hours ended up missing the plane.

They should have gone to Knox City!

    • The Glen (except for parking) and Ringwood would have been good choices to.

  • Sydney trains have an extra $19.80 gate fee.
Brisbane charges half the hardware value.
