Was browsing KVMs and came across this deal - not too bad. I need a 4 PC one, so this deal isn't for me.

I have been using UGREEN KVMs and have been very happy, but you can't really get them for $49 with Power Delivery over USB-C, HDMI and USB for 3 PCs!

Supports 100W PD, HDR and 4K60Hz.

Full description:

Use this Plug & Play 3-Port KVM switch to tidy up your home office. This dual HDMI in and USB-C docking KVM allows you to use a single keyboard, mouse, and monitor to control up to 3 separate devices. Simply plug in your USB mouse and keyboard, HDMI cables and connect your USB-C device, then switch between them using the button on the KVM itself. The USB-C dock allows for up to 100W of power delivery, perfect for most Windows, Mac or even Nintendo Switch devices. Supports resolutions of up to 4K@60 / HDR.

USB-C power supply not included.

Enjoy!

All I am missing is 120Hz and switching via keyboard shortcuts

I want this, but the price is stopping me ($USD)

      • Yeah I was looking for a solution for my macbook (work, via type C) to work with my PC both kvm'd properly across my 34" ultrawide.. The only units I found were Wendels and like one other brand.. But way too expensive.

I settled on a ugreen USB switcher (with remote so I can hide the switcher) and just used type C into monitor and DP for PC direct, just swap peripherals. Works a treat and only cost like 50 bucks.

        • Which ugreen model is this? Sounds compelling.

          • @teaserenn: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0C8MSP967

Was 45 on sale. I've got it powered via type c too just under the desk, and have the little button remote on top of the desk. No display out though - for my use case I ultimately didn't need it.

FYI There's a 10Gbps Type C version for a bit more. (USB 3.2, also others with DP out etc)

@ReaperX22: Thanks. Love the idea of the remote to hide the dock. I don’t need video strictly either. This will suit fine.

        • How do you switch usb-c to DP for video? Is it from the buttons on monitor directly?

          • @mpatil: Monitor direct. For my use case I don't need both devices to use the same port.

Monitor auto detects anyway. But you could also use the monitor buttons or toggle, pending device.

        • Try this: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/aw/d/B0DCMWZVTF?psc=1&ref=ppx_p…

I use DP for my Ultrawide (dp to USB-c cable for the laptop) and HDMI for my 2nd monitor.

3 of the USB ports cover the usual peripherals , and 1 goes to the Ultra wide USB hub input so any additionals can be plugged into that. The remote button is good, whole hub is hidden under my monitor riser

Any kvm switches that output to 3 1080p monitors?

  • i just bought mine full price…

    • Quickly return it and repurchase?

    • Really. I purchased this one in March and it was $49 back then.

Can anyone recommend a KVM for 2-out monitor displays
suitable for a laptop/pc set up?

  • Need similar with 144Hz 4K

      • -5

Well, that's awesome except it is 3 times more expensive ;)

        • +3

Considering you're getting 4x the resolution it sounds like you're coming out on top

        • I bit the bullet and basically paid the extra couple hungy to get KVM in my monitor - but granted that's only if you're up for a new monitor of course… I told myself I 'needed' to try a 4k 32"

          • @gazer: TBH the diff between monitor with KVM and without is huge.
Like amount of storage is iPad. It is really hard to justify buying the monitor with KVM ;(

  • single hdmi out :(

  • genuine question - what's the use case?

for productivity, a BT KB + mouse combo could manage 3+ laptops?

EDIT: wait using the same screen output : ')

    • +1

I tend to agree. Having tried KVM and after years of ozbargaining, I have a couple of rapoo mx masters, g502 sitting on the table along with 2 tkl keyboard for table real estate.

On a WFH basis, you can get away with 1 keyboard bt switching but 2 mouse is far more convenient. Just hook up the each monitor with a 10 dollar ugreen HDMI switch or get a Ultra wide pbp monitor.

Just for people who have multiple systems.

As an example I have a work laptop, a PC and a mini PC I use as a server (plex, storage etc).

I have dual monitors in my setup, which doesn't quite hit the brief but I'm tempted to just buy 2 given the price.

  • Quick question, the note regarding "USB-C power supply not included" does that mean that an additional power cable is required for it to work? If so, presume Jaycar sell these.

      • can this work with 65W power supplies?
    • +1

Yeah you'll need an extra wall wart to run power into it.

    • +2

You probably need a higher powered power supply (say 65w or more) if you want to charge a laptop while in use. I think it just assumes you will re-use the usb-c power supply that came with your laptop and use that to power the laptop and KVM when you connect the laptop via usb-c port at the front.

  • The picture shows only 2 x hdmi inputs? 1 out? So it could only manage 2 pcs??

    • +1

The usb-c port at the front is indicated to be an input. At least that's what the instruction manual says.

      • How does it get power? Your laptop would habe to be powered on the whole time?

        • I believe power (via USB PD), video and usb all go through the USB-C cable.

If you use either of the HDMI inputs on it then yeah the device needs to be powered elsewhere.

    • My understanding is it can do 'up to 3' devices:
1 is using the usb-c in the front (so it gets powered by the dock as well as receives the usbs and HDMI output) e.g. usb-c laptop
2 and 3 are plugged into the back HDMI and usb inputs (and get output to the HDMI) so will be externally powered devices e.g. desktop computer/server.

  • This is a great deal if you like me have a windows pc + a MacBook for easy switching and unlimited power source.

Though do keep in mind it is all cabled. I have been rocking the ugreen basic kvm for a while and it is good, but I just ordered an mx keys mini keyboard and will pair it with the mx master 4 mouse when it comes out.

The keyboard has a button for both the mouse and keyboard to switch up to 3 devices with Bluetooth/adapter so I’m looking forward to a (mostly) cableless setup and is definitely worth checking out as an alternative

  • Hi
Does it have display link or can anyone suggest any low cost dock having display link
I need it for my Mac M3 pro to have extended display to connect to 2 external monitor.
    TIA

    • Could use HDMI output, and buy a USB-C to HDMI/DisplayPort adaptor if that's the only reason you're looking for a dock.

      • I use one HDMI to HDMI and one type C to HDMI
The challenge is that's only one monitor works at a time due to Mac M3 limitation.
The work around suggested is to use dock station having display link so that user can work on two external monitor with laptop screen open.

        • +1

If it is M3 (not M3 Pro), and you want to use the laptop screen + 2 external monitors, then you need either a dock that supports DisplayLink or a USB-C DisplayLink adapter (technically, you could use a USB-C to USB-A converter + a USB-A DisplayLink adapter/dongle).

This one doesn't support DisplayLink. If it does, it probably would have been OZBargained by now.

          • @netsurfer: Thank you for the information.
I have m3 pro , is there any alternative I can use instead of display link dock
            TIA

            • @bazeon: M3 Pro supports 2 external displays in addition to the internal display. Try getting a USB-C to HDMI (or USB-C to Display Port) adapter from Amazon AU. If you are after 4K resolution, I suggest you consider getting 8K/60Hz version. However, if you are after 1440p or you don't care about HDR, then you could try 4K@60Hz ones. Don't get 4K@30Hz ones.

Amazon AU has good return policy in case you ended up getting a dodgy adapter.

I have a lot of different docking stations over the years, and the most reliable for me is Dell. My workplace uses them, and they last forever

If you don't need thunderbolt 4 or 5 tech in the latest models, then the older models like the Dell WD19TBS can be found reasonably cheap on ebay, and has lasted me years. Capable of 4K60 to 3 monitors, but even the earlier discontinued models floating around ebay work great

  • For the uninitiated, is the use case for this if you have lots of devices and not enough hdmi ports in the monitor? My office setup has two laptops, a pc and ps5 so this might be worth exploring.

    • I guess it can be used that way but a KVM switch stands for Keyboard, Video, Mouse, meaning that the main purpose is connect multiple PCs to a single set of Keyboard and Mouse and a single screen (or multiple screens in some cases) so that you can control and view each PC by switching to each of them.

For the purpose you mentioned, you maybe better off getting a HDMI switch. It depends if you want to use one set of keyboard and mouse with your 2 laptops and PC.

      • Right thank you.
I have a couple wireless mice that work perfectly between the three computers, but my keyboard is wired so i have to switch between the pc and dongle (which connects into whichever laptop I’m using). Sounds like it would just help for that one keyboard change which is not worth it, especially as I have minimal space for something else lol.
        Thanks!

  • Does anyone have any recommendations for a KVM that can do 2x4k DP monitors?

Only need it between two devices
