Ahh only applies to specific colors

Also love how its free shipping over $150 but the jacket is 3c off.

    • +20

Add the Storm Clothing Wash ($5.50) to make the total order over $150, saves a couple bucks on shipping for those wanting to purchase!

  • Great jacket at great price, if you can handle the colors

  • +3

No Mediums (Men's).. including the non sale colours; except black.

    • +1

Yeah, sad about this too. I did google sizing fit as I know sometimes these things run large (I fluctuate between medium and small), supposedly small is no good because you can only do minimal layers underneath, as opposed to medium, you can really rug up and be warm. saddddd

I have literally been waiting for the orange one to go on sale for the last 2 months.
    Finally does.
OOS in M. All colours. Fml.

      Just gain weight, easy.

Plenty of deals to help with that too.

Pfft Patagonia… i only buy Acteryx..

(proceeds to buy Macpac in the background)

    • Acteryx was so 2022

      • +11

so many people missed the joke…

i don't care about Arcteryx still in 2022 as I still live in Macpac budget 😅

        • +1

I'm with ya - went above their heads

        • I didn't vote on your comment 😅

    • +3

      Try Decathlon!

  • +1

    Don't these still have PFAS?

    • +9

      Only if it's by misake

Fabric, membrane and DWR finish made without intentionally added PFAS

      • +2

Seems like a bit of a loophole for still including DWR

      • +2

Yeah, they must only add them unintentionally.

  • +2

Probably not a bad investment given the weather in Sydney lately…

  • are these too hot to be worn during spring / summer / sunny times?

    • Iirc this doesn’t have pit vents - but it is a shell layer as the name suggests - it’s not really designed to keep you warm in just a tshirt, so maybe it’s ok if it’s not zipped up

      • +5

I have one of these definitely has pit vents and not a hot jacket. Not mentioned in description, but watch Patagonia video at 55sec on their website.

        • +1

Cheers I was putting off buying these for years specifically because no vents lol thanks boggles the mind it’s not listed. It’s a make or break feature imo

    • I'd say so, it's got a PU layer so it won't be super breathable

Personally I'd only wear a jacket like this on a colder rainy day

  • +2

Triolet for $419.97 is pretty good too

    • -1

Is a single jacket really worth the cost of an iPad 😮‍💨

      • +18

Is an iPad really worth the price of a single jacket?

        • +3

Still, jokes aside, and not picking on your specific example- isn’t it fascinating a bit of fabric and some zips stitched together can cost the same amount as something with as much technology and practical utility of say, an iPad, or an Andorid phone, or a Windows laptop. This is ozbargain after all, we should always question the concept of value

          • -3

@parcus: I find it equally fascinating that a bit of metal, plastic and glass assembled together can cost the same amount as something with as much function and practical utilty of a rain jacket.

      • The triolet is for Alpine conditions, and if it's keeping you dry and comfortable, without adding excess weight on multiple day overland treks, it's well worth the price.

But for middle management office jocks in the CBD to match with their RM Williams, it is not the jacket for them.

  • Had my eye on these for ages. Thanks!

I've got one and it's a solid and versatile waterproof layer for camping trips :)

    • do they state the level of water repellency anywhere?

      • None of the water-repelling jackets have a waterhead rating like tents do.

Also, there are different types of materials, eg. GoreTex , eVent, etc…so, each of the companies created their own rain-proof material…and even then, don't always explain how many "laters" of it they use, etc…to try and keep the overall weight low too.

(This Torrentshell jacket says '3 Layers', so that sounds good 👌 )

        • +3

The more layers the better breathability (at penalty of weight).
You're pretty much guaranteed that a layer of plastic over your body is waterproof.
However, you wear a one-layer jacket, this is a plastic bag, you will capture heat in it like crazy and cook inside it.
So you add vents, usually under the armpits and multiple layers of material under the outer shell to allow for air to move underneath and allow for the body to regulate heat rather than just capture it.

So you see the increase in price for 2, to 2.5 to 3 layer jackets.
Have owned this 3L shell for a little while now and it is a great jacket. Also had the Marmot Precip 2.5L jacket which is more packable but less comfortable on long hikes in the wet.

          • +1

@sobriety22: You're right about the 3 layers, because I have 2 x Mountain Designs 3L Gore-Tex (Prolite), and they are so comfortable to wear, not to mention the rain-/wind-proofing reasons of why I wear them.

I did not realise the comfort was related to the number of layers, even though my jackets are around 350 - 400g in weight.

Found this review . WIth the sale price it seems like a good buy
        https://www.outdoorgearlab.com/reviews/clothing-mens/rain-ja…

        • Many thanks, good review. I have a multi-layer now that is 10,000mm but wanted to see if this would be a step up.

  • Brill - thanks OP. With all the wet weather recently this is perfect

  • Waiting for Nano Air for this price.

  • -1

Only good if you're XXLL or something. Nothing left in a M or L

  • have one but it lost DWR after 10 uses
What's the best way to recover the DWR? Tried Grangers Performance Wash and Spray but didn't really help
obviously the old DWR formula (PFAS?) is much better in terms of longevity

    • +1

Maybe you can take it back to Patagonia

    • NikWax?

    • I re-DWRed mine recently with NikWax tech wash, worked pretty good on everything except the cuffs, which still wet down a bit. Patagonia recommends Storm Wash, but I haven't tried that yet.

  • +1

I have this jacket and its served me well over conditions around the city, overland track and various hikes/camps.

The worst thing about this jacket is the lack of an elasticed sleeve/wrist. Its just velcro and depending how it sits against your wrist you may need to nick the velcro up or not.

It is pretty light, foldable-ish, armpit breathing zips

    • I love that the wrists aren't elastic. Means that on hot days the sleeves can also get some airflow quite nicely.

  • -1

This jacket holds up to 3l of rain, apparently

    • 3.3l when tested

  • Anyone size up for the Nano Puff?

    • nano puff is pretty slim isn't it? depends how tight fitting your existing jackets are vs your body size

      • Yeah it is, I generally wear a S in Patagonia but I’m hearing the nano puff runs a bit small.. unsure if I should just get a S or M!

        • I'm 70kg, 173 cm, slim athletic build and have the small torrent jacket. It's not space in there for xs macpac halo. But it's quite puffed out. Hope that helps.

I think small should be OK especially given its a nano

  • +1

Is Patagonia true to size in general?

    • I want to know this too. Looking at their size guide looks like they are true to size compared to the TNF.

    • This jacket definitely is true to size. Still comfy with a few layers underneath, but I'd go up a size if you're going to wear a fairly lofty puffer under it - I get by wearing a Macpac down vest, but it'd be a bit restrictive if I had sleeves as well. A thinner down layer would probably be ok.

  • bought an orange XXL. Return policy looks pretty good.

  • +1

Thanks, I need a good waterproof jacket, dont care what colour it is. Also got the stormwash thanks for that advice

  • Just wear an inner fleece and this should be good to go for Aussie snow ski condition.

    • I’ve actually done this and for a casual day at the snow it’s great - saves buying a dedicated ski jacket if you don’t go regularly to the snow.

  • Only a few left and sizes XXL. I'd give it a try if they can add more stock.

  • thanks op, been wanting a good yellow rain jacket for years :)

  • One day before class he came up to me and said “nice Patagonia shirt. Gotta get me one of those.” Let’s just say, I knew what he meant.

  • Wearing a regular jacket that at least absorbs some water may even feel more comfortable than water pouring directly off a technical jacket and soaking your pants.

  • Mine wets out sooo quick, I wash it regularly and I've done the nikwax tech wash and tx direct but there are always bits that wet out almost instantly (sleeves and upper back).

Tbf the jacket never lets the water through onto me though. Maybe that's just how it is?

    • Well it's supposed to run off for at least a while if you believe the testing reports. Maybe some substance that doesn't easily wash off has soaked into it?

      • Damn, yeah not too sure. I assumed the tech wash + wash in would do the job to clear anything out but it seems the same afterwards. Maybe need to use more chemicals per wash?? 😂

    • It's still supposed to run off for a while - how long have you had it? The 3L design helps keep you warm and dry but there isn't supposed to be a lot of water deflected by the inner 2 layers.

You can try reactivating the waterproof coating by running through a dryer on low, if you have one.

      • Aw boo, I remember it happening just a few days after getting it.

How often do you wash and tumble yours? Do you use the water repellent chemicals on it (like nikwax)?

  • Dont forget 5% cashrewards

These jackets seem to get pretty good reviews. They do have armpit zips apparently and rated around 28000mm

  • +1

The "Model is 190cm wearing a size medium." How does he fit into a M at 190cm tall!

    • maybe I shouldnt have got an XL !! probably be swimming in it

  • I got a pair in 2XL and I usually wear XL, hopefully they run small

  • I have the Triolet and it's been a fantastic outer shell in hikes & ski trips. However I've never really had to wear it for too long in downpour. With recent rainy weather, I did further research and came across this video.. that puts in question the effectiveness of "breathability" of these types of jackets when it's pouring rain:

  • anyone got order shipped? I paid from 12 Aug but the order is still unfulfilled.

    • Yes, got mine yesterday

      • Maybe I bought some other stuff as well. It is huge sale.
