  • Nothing beats Tongan Kava, and drinking it the traditional way.
Fijian Kava is weak AF - Source, Personal experience.

I'm talking real Kava, not this powdered sht.

        He knows his Kava

    • Where can you get it in AUS?

      • Tongan grown Kava, I don't think we can anymore(could be wrong).
I'm pretty sure only Fijian grown Kava can be imported these days.

I was buying it from a Sth Pacific Islanders store years ago(by the Kg) and she told me only Fijian now, government stopped Tongan Kava coming in.

whats thedifference between tongan and fiji? are they not the same plant?

      • Grow times, the longer it grows before harvest, the stronger the roots, my understanding from Tongans and Fijians is that Tongans grow for atleast 7yrs before harverst, and Fijians harvest much quicker.

I hope so. The comment I linked in the description suggests yes. A response to that comment suggests no. I'll let you know in a couple hours.

I consumed 10g - 4x the 2.5g recommendation on the pack - on a half full stomach, about 75min ago. So far no dice ☹️.

It's crap, almost no effect whatsoever. I have a better experience with the instant kava from Root and Pestle Kava.

I have never heard of Kava before today

Imagine being drunk on alcohol, except you retain common sense, it's a body drunk.
Does the same damage to the liver as alcohol does though.

How are they selling this in Coles. Gosh imagine your kids getting this… Or someone being behind a steering wheel after drinking this.

Have you had it? You will hardly get high off it. I had twice the serving last night and if anything was just a little warm - although i made it with warm water so there is that.

Anyone can buy some herbal tea online or off the shelf that will have far more of a euphoric effect than this stuff.

I'm glad Coles are selling a variety of products because once we go down the food nanny state route there won't be much left on the shelf anywhere.

If I had the Coles one .. no. Have I had kava before definitely yes.
That's where my concern is.. of it's the same level of psychotropic effects.. it's actually harmful.
I went to a Fiji Indian party and they had this kava drink where all the men sit in a circle and drink… Did not enjoy it's effects.

There are many different levels of strength I'm sure. The difference between this stuff and what you have stated is the difference between chamomile tea and LSD.

There would be thousands more products on the shelves more dangerous than this in coles and chemist warehouse and I don't think we need to be alarmist about it because it's at the supermarket.

@buffalo bill: How is someone to know the effects are different. At least with alcohol you have a alcohol concentration.
I only mentioned my experience because that is all I had to go off. But if you are saying there are different strengths what metric is there to measure this off?

I purchased this a while ago to try and sleep and to try and induce I suppose a sedation by having a bit, it kinda did but also made me feel stimulated at the same time, I ended up not being a sleep

Copy pasting my comment to earlier post. If you are new to kava, do check out https://www.reddit.com/r/Kava/ and what users say. Read FAQs like its effects, if it's addictive or causes liver damage (it doesn't). It's amazing and worth a try. Drink on empty stomach. If you drink it after food you probably won't feel anything. Getting "drunk" on kava is called krunk/rooted.

Ended up buying some (wasn't expecting it to do anything) and I can say from 1 teaspoon with water it's alright. Tastes like earth and dirt, which I found eating some fruit straight after took the taste away quickly. Gave me a decent body buzz, like having a few beers, but my mind is clear. Has lasted for 1.5hrs so far (says up to 2hrs). My anxiety is slightly reduced and I can see how having more would make me tried and sleep better.

My pulse rate is down by 8% over normal and I did get some numbness in the mouth (normal)

Ended up buying a blender and passed it through muslin cloth to get the grit out of it. I will visit my Kava shop in the next week or so and compare it to what the locals buy.

I think it worth trying if you want to feel a bit tried or more relaxed. I'm honest surprised its sold at coles, given we live in a nanny state
