If you are gonna buy Oakley sunglasses, pray you dont have any defects because I am currently at 6 weeks of back and forth emails and phone calls for what should of been a simple exchange.
anything but the company with the monopoly…. they have gone well out of their way to make it hard to buy quality alternatives.
I don't think quality is all that difficult to achieve when you are talking polycarbonate lenses. My understanding is that polycarbonate blocks UV so even the cheapest polycarbonate will do the job. So a $5 Ali express pair will protect just as well as the $300rrp (WTF?!) Oakley, assuming the Ali express pair are in fact made of polycarbonate.
Maybe a materials scientist will chime in if I'm wrong - happy to be corrected.

Luxxotica have really mastered the art of 'perceived value pricing'. Kind of reminds me of the market for diamonds and also premium cycling kit these days.
As for alternatives, I've been happy with Goodr glasses - they don't have the heft of the heavier plastic frames that often signal 'premium' but I use them for running so a heavy frame would be a disadvantage. https://goodr.com.au. Le Specs, Cancer Council, Polaroid do decent quality glasses with a range of styles. Dresden optical do sunglasses lenses in their frames, but the frames don't have as much eye coverage as a typical sunglasses. There are definitely options out there. Certainly when you're looking at a wayfarer style there are lots of options - no one really looks closely at your sunglasses anyway so who cares whether it's cancer council knockoffs or Oakely/Raybans?
note even Goodr is way overpriced given the materials involved. But I'm only at the beginning of my sunglasses bargain hunting journey….
