    Good price!

  • Very tempting! Will only need it early next year, hope there will be another round of sales towards end of this year.

      Black Friday/Cyber Monday hopefully.

Excellent price. I've paired this with the U6 Pro.

  • +3

Damn, that's a great price! I got one of these on pre-order when they first came out for $515 delivered and thought that was good.

For anyone considering them, it's been a very solid unit in the month and a bit I've had it running. Can highly recommend it.

  • +2

Great price. Paid $506 not long ago :(

This unit has been brilliant. Highly recommend.

Unifi OS is so responsive now - was previously running a UX Express which was such a bad intro to Unifi.

This, though. Game changer. Got it paired with a U7 Pro Wall which has been incredible, too.

One thing to note - the SSD tray is $59, and is perpetually out of stock. So I have 3D printed one.

    • +3

The trays are available on eBay - I managed to pick up an OEM one. To note - the OEM tray does have thermal contact pads and the whole tray acts as a heatsink for the SSD.

    • +1

yeah I thought of you when I saw this price - sorry I nudged you on the last deal 😅
honestly both really good deals though, and im glad you like the fiber

      • Haha all g. It’s been great having a capable device, so I don’t mind.

  • mussssssssssssst resist

    • +1

      Don't - this is a great deal.

      • been ummming and aaaahing for a while, but hoping for better black friday deal

        • +2

I'd just do it. This is a really great price.

        • +1

Bought at 506. Great machine. massive upgrade over my ux express. Gave my UX to my parents now I can remotely monitor/diagnose without having to actually go there heh. If the internet is down entirely, I know it's not my problem! They can call ISP ha.

I don't think you'll see any much better than this price honestly.. 450 MAYBE BF deals.. But that's also months away. Consider all the fun you can have in the meantime! :P

          • @ReaperX22: I could never get Unifi console working on Express, it was just too slow

            • +1

@giventofly: Yeah.. It takes forever to load. A bit better on the Web version vs app tbh. I have to retry with the app all the time. And it takes 10mins to restart. Insane.

    • This is really good price,
R2D2 UDM served me well, but [UCG-Fiber + U7 Pro] settled me down all the networking G.A.S. till WIFI 8

SFP+ 10GbE is a much-welcome release of my NAS to everything that pulls data & media off it

      • im also upgrading from R2D2 UDM…. so tempting

      • +1 same replacing R2D2 UDM,
just got the UCG Fiber from this deal! Already running u7 lite WAP

Did you do a config backup and restore when migrating or manually reconfigure? if so was there any issues via backup and recovery?

        • +3

Hope you enjoy it as much as I am, it was a long wait for me to track it since its Feb'25 launch/announcement

Overall, it was a backup & restore to initiate my UCG-Fiber. But I gathered my credentials ready to do a full-manual. I plugged my UCG-Fiber into my UDM to fetch any latest updates as well.

Great question, yes, there was some issue with my first attempt. Initiate via desktop, web browser.
All the profile and settings were downloaded to my UCG-Fiber but somehow it just couldn't complete. A quick google search shows there are a few cases like mine when my ISP uses PPPoE.

What I did was, I factory-reset my UCG-Fiber, by this time, it had done its firmware upgrade as well. I use the Unifi app on my phone, pull my backup from UI.com again. And voila, it worked.
The whole UDM > UCG-Fiber migration took ~35mins

My tip if you are like me who monitors the System Statistics panel religiously:
You will see the Memory line shows headroom (first time for me). This is a rare sight coming from our R2D2 UDM that is always choked by its ram.

My tip if you are like me who monitors the System Statistics panel religiously

Is this under Control Plane -> Console -> About This Console?

            • +1

@sssbp: Oh, this is a new way to get to it that I am not familiar with, thank you and I learn new things

This is how I get to it:

From Unifi Network dashboard, click the UCG-Fiber (yes, literally just click on the white thing): https://imgur.com/a/y2wBzyc
This will reveal and extend a side panel on the right.
There are three tabs: Overview - [Insights] - Settings. <~ click the [Insights] tab in the middle
There is a System Statistics widget showing Usage (5) in 1D/1W/1M period

Hope this makes sense : )

              • @frkino: Legend, thank you! Appreciate the steps and screenshots

          • @frkino: Thank you for such a detailed reply! I will ensure firmware is up to date before attempting a backup and recovery.

@pazloft: I suggest still plan for the worst and note down everything in case the restore failed.

My restore failed badly (but I have VLANs setup). I found UCG-Fiber quite picky on port VLAN settings (it needs to be spot on in my case). I also had UniFi Protect cameras to deal with as part of the migration. If you don't use VLANs, then the restore will most likely be fairly smooth.

Bear in mind that one advantage of R2D2 UDM is that it has WiFi built in. UCG-Fiber doesn't. For me, I happened to mix a 3rd party access point in my network setup (which runs Open-WRT with VLANs). While I was repairing UCG-Fiber config after a failed upgrade, it was that 3rd party access point which allowed me to connect to UCG-Fiber wirelessly (it's possible to use bluetooth via app, but it was much faster to use a laptop / desktop and being able to google for solutions was handy).

  • Can anyone knowledgeable shed some light for me on what advantages would this provide over say something like this from AE

Mainly looking for hooking up my nas with my pc on 10gbe.

Wtf with AE making every link a referral one..

    • +1

      one's just a switch… the other's a router/firewall/switch in one.

    • Apples and oranges. UCG-Fiber is a router with multi-WAN on those SFP ports. Your link is a 10Gbps switch. For your purposes the UCG-Fiber doesn't make sense; I'm not sure it does switching between the two 10G ports.

      • Yeah it doesn't. You could combine both, though! But really once you've gotten into unifi you probably wanna stick with ubiquiti switches.. It kinda all just works well together. (usually heh)

      • @tonyamazing Thanks. Good thing I didn't trigger buy it then for FOMO but was close.

  • Can someone please advise if I can replace my 3 eero 6+ with this? I’ll need other mesh devices right? Will it be advantageous in the long run? Thanks.

Edit: Not sure why my comment warrants a neg? Am I asking the wrong questions? Or are you just bored?

Can someone please advise if I can replace my 3 eero 6+ with this? I’ll need other mesh devices right?

You'll still need APs to do a Mesh. I haven't used the Ubiquiti Mesh, but it is available.

This device is just a router, no WiFi built in.

Will it be advantageous in the long run

Maybe, depends on your use case and what you have available. You might find that it will become expensive. U6 Lite APs are about ~$200 each. So you are probably up for $1,100 investment to do the changeover.

    • +5

Tbh, if you've gotta ask about a device like this, you're probably better off staying as you are.

People buying ubiquiti usually have a reason to and are searching/looking for specific devices for specific use cases.

If your current setup works fine/you're just thinking about maybe in a couple years, I'd just reconsider in a couple years honestly.

    • +1

This is more for access points based setup. Such setup does provide better WiFi performance, because the backbone between the access points is wired connection. Therefore, you need to either have a house that's pre-wired with ethernet ports at locations where you will be putting access points or you are buying something for a new house build where you will be getting ethernet points wired throughout the house.

Technically, UniFi access points can operate in wireless mesh mode. However, you don't get better range than standard mesh setup when using them in that mode.

  • Code not working.

Are you using Afterpay as your payment method?

      • Yup. Says, This code can’t be applied to your order.

        • Weird, just tried it then working for me (after selecting after pay).
