  • Why choose x5 over this.

    1. Replaceable lens (BIG FKNG YES).
    2. Studio app for edit is so flawless and so easy.
    • +4

I sold my X5 for this because of the better image quality.

I spoke with DJI customer support and they put in writing that the cost of a lens replacement, including shipping both ways, is $40. This is around the same cost of an Insta360 X5 replacement lens from Aliexpress, and is cheaper than if getting it from Insta360 directly.

Yes the DJI Studio software lags behind Insta360 studio, but DJI is a massive company and have been working with cameras for longer than Insta360. I expect the software suite to catch up within the next few months.

      • Insta360 app is very focused on their product, getting updates every now and then. With how easy the time framing at studio360, really difficult to move to another software.

        • The framing is the same though. It's keyframes on a timeline.

The feature set is what sets them apart.Insta360 Studio has transitions between clips, motion ND effect, ability to add music and export to ProRes to name a few. DJI Studio also has some pretty bad bugs at the moment, particularly with the Windows application.

I expect DJI will match the feature set within a few months and iron out all the bugs soon. They are a much bigger company than Insta360 and they are making 360 drones now too.

    • apparently you can export footage from this and import into insta studio

      • Yeah you can. That seems to be a good temporary work around particularly with the distortion control / correction angle not correctly applying a rectilinear filter in DJI studio when compared to Insta360 Studio, at least in the Windows application.

I do expect this to be fixed soon as a DJI rep has reached out on the /djiosmo360 subreddit saying it will.

        • agreed, thankfully its mostly just a software issue which is quickly fixable

        • can you pull it into the mobile app too or just on desktop? I mean by putting DJI footage on SD and popping that into an insta360 cam if you have one like X2 or X3

  • Reckon the Adventure pack is worth the extra?

I am thinking of using this in a pool/water park, what additional extra's do I need? It is water resistant out of the box as I understand it.

Nah, just get the selfie stick and Osmo Action 5 batteries on Aliexpress for much cheaper.

I used the cheap $10 invisible selfie sticks with my X5 without any issue.

There isn't a dive case available yet. It is waterproof to 10m but 360 cameras have issues stitching underwater footage together without a dive case along with some soft focus. Insta360 have dive cases for their cameras because of this. I expect DJI to come out with some soon, or Aliexpress seller will do it for them.

  • Waiting for A5P on sale. The best price was last black Friday sale. Seems A6P is coming late 25 too

  • This is their first gen model, so many flaws and improvement still achievable in the future. Better to wait for next gen model from DJI, otherwise Insta360 is a more matured product.

    • I sold my Insta360 X5 to get this because the image quality is better and all issues will very likely be resolved soon. Osmo 360 is cheaper with better image quality and will only get even better over time.

    • As with any new tech, if you are an early adopter..it is a moot point really. I still have my iPhone 8gb. Was it expensive? Hell yea! Was the tech immature? Yep. Any regrets? Nay..

At the end of the day, do what makes you happy :)

  • AAH!! after I bought one for $689 from digidirect last week, It was delivered yesterday still sitting unopened.

    • +1

It doesn't look like they have a change of mind returns policy, but it can't hurt to ask?

I purchased one from JB HiFi a few weeks ago still that's unopened in sealed packaging. They have a 30 day change of mind return policy if unopened and sealed so will be taking back for refund.

      • I bought on ebay itself from them so do have the option of free returns with ebay plus, but dont feel good about making the return and then reordering for $43 savings (all the wasted packaging, shipping, etc)

        • For $43 it might be worth a shot. I would personally give it a go.

      • I've been kinda worried about the lens fog issue some people are getting, was already contemplating returning the 360 over it.. anyone else got it or worried about it?

        • Nah not worried - https://www.reddit.com/r/djiosmo360/comments/1mkhkyp/comment…

Just take the battery out, power via external USB-C, set to record 8K50p for ~20 mins then turn off. This will 'pump' the humid internal air out and dry out the internals. The humidity won't condense on the lens again because it's dried out from the humid factory air.

It shouldn't have shipped from the factory like this, but at least there appears to be an easy fix for it for most circumstances.

  • Doesn't even shoot RAW stills. Ridiculous lol.

  • $640 flat on Amazon AU using a business account. $655 and has a $15 code on the product page. sold and shipped by Amazon. Much better return policy too.

    • Is this still valid?

      • don't think so. if you're not in a hurry i'd wait. it'll get cheaper for sure.

        • I got a opened one from Amazon for $670 so went with that, loving it so far, quality is great
