  • Do people actually cook 8 cups at a time? My GF and I cook 1 cup and it's more than enough. 8 cups would feed 16 people. No good to cook more and put in fridge because it dries out.

    • Probs depend on the size of the cup? I and my housemates usually cook 4 cups and done in a single meal for 4 peoples. We all Asian from different countries, 8 cups can be done in a single day.

    • Following on from mfu, it's not necessarily just in 1 sitting that we cook the rice for (in a decent rice cooker).

If the rice cooker supports it (most decent ones do) we generally cook multiple cups at once and leave it on keep warm for 1 - 2 whole days which retains it's fluffiness and texture without it getting too dry / hard.
Over the stretch of 1 - 2 days you could be having multiple cups of rice / meals.

Of course, if you don't value rice that much / care of texture then a decent rice cooker will not be for your demographic.

If you eat rice regularly enough (Where rice is the main dish and proteins are a side), you get to the stage where you will die on a hill before you eat trashy cooked rice or just skip out on the meal all together.

    • Dried out rice is great for fried rice (obviously not too dry). When I make fried rice, I cook it 2 days ahead and leave it in the fridge to dry. I find fried rice with fresh rice is too sticky and goes mushy.

  • Does this have the Fuzzy Nuts feature/logic?

    • Other Special Features of the Product
Advanced Fuzzy Logic, Automatic Cooking, Automatic Keep Warm, One-Touch Operation, Timer

Sources from the features and specs section of the listing.

  • Beware of plastic latch lock design like this - when my Philips' plastic latch broke, I had to tape it all the time to close the lid. It's a mess, such a pity while the cooker still worked well. Anyone know any good cookers without such limitation?

    • +1

That is Dutch this is japanese. One doesnt eat rice as much as the other

      • It's been a long time since Philips was really Dutch, or produced quality. Even their light bulbs (which is what they started with) don't last nearly as long as they advertise. Back in the days, Philips and Sony were on-par. BTW, Dutch eat rice, but generally not Jasmin rice. The rice in the Netherlands tastes awful, IMO.

Panasonic bought National, which made those famous simple rice cookers that you used to see everywhere across South East Asia. So I reckon this is a good product.
