Sony STR-AN1000 7.2 Channel Receiver $1,195 Shipped @ West Coast Hifi

Best cash price I've found for the STR-AN1000 listed in Australia - It was cheaper (if you consider the gift cards here) however.

There are other options such as the Yamaha RX-V6A for sale at Hardly Normal too which I almost jumped on personally $984 after taking into account HN Gift card.

I don't think West Coast Hifi do any form of cashbacks unfortunately, I will update if someone posts that they do.

Coupon is for $100 off any purchase over $1000 too if that's helpful

Nice find, how does this compare the pre-covid 1080 model?

I believe it's covered in this Andrew Robinson review, essentially its an in place upgrade for more modern features. Ultimately from what I was reading though, unless you need the newer features or you're having issues it's not a massive upgrade given the cost. I feel like you'd be better off going with something a bit better and saving a bit longer / a better deal.

  • Replaced my aging but extremely capable Yamaha Aventage RX-A3000 with this Sony STR-AN1000 at the start of this year.

The sound stage upgrade was impressive. I've got it paired with Bowers and Wilkins MT50 Speakers and a PV1 sub, and eARC to a Sony X95K tv. Makes for a pretty good setup.

The only thing I am disappointed in is the menu system. It's a bit dull to navigate but thankfully you don't often need the menu.

    • Glad to hear you got an impressive upgrade!

I'm (somewhat) side grading to this, as I have a Marantz SR6011 I got for $120 used around five years ago. Long story short it's an international model from Myanmar and Bluetooth and wifi don't work here and it couldn't be modified to change it.

For the last 3 or so years its dropped the center channel occasionally but now it's dropping the rears and getting worse.

I like that it does HDMI 2.1 48gbps and has built in chromecast. I dislike it doesn't have phono as now I need to buy a phono box…

I have a similar Sony TV - x90j - how good are they?

  • This looks very similar to the previous 1080 model (which, in case anyone was wondering, has nothing to do with 1080p, just a co-incidence with the model name).

I found a number of people had issues with the green led displaying failing due to poor/dry joints on the previous model. I wonder if Sony have addressed this?

    • The chassis itself is similar in style yes, but it's not the same at all. Think iPhone 6 to iPhone 8 type of thing. Same chassis, but refined hardware. Unsure on the display however.. I wonder what they cost to replace?

My 1080 is still going strong!

  • I took this deal 3 weeks ago - Sony refused to price match. I originally wanted to get a price match so I could get 2 Qantas points per dollar on the Sony website or 10% cash back

I am very happy with this receiver

  • Is the 1080 the model without Bluetooth? If so then that's the model i have.

  • Looks like seriously underpowered compared to Yamaha RX-V6A

  • What are people's thoughts on this vs a Denon AVR-X1800H?

I had a low end denon for a while, an x520 I think and it was solid for the price, but it is time for a bit of an upgrade, not a big one but just enough to handle the extra two channels and some extra inputs.
