$29.78 on ebay. What makes this one better?

    • +4

Genuine (Kogan) vs non-genuine (eBay). Arguably the non-genuine you linked may not be as good.

      • -4

How do you know the Kogan one is genuine?

        • -2

I agree, could easily be the same ones as ebay. Much much detail on Kogan

          • +5

            @Mechanist: It says:

Xiaomi Mi HEPA Filter for Air Purifier

It labels it with the brand.

I imagine that means it's genuine. If not, report to the ACCC. Thanks.

            • +1

@siwi666: Not to mention all the previous deals have been genuine.

            • -7

@siwi666: So basically, 'because it says so'. Got it.

If there's nothing independently verifiable then there's nothing that can be reported to ACCC other than bad vibes.

    • One is a genuine Xiaomi filter, the other is not. Sheesh. Research is good.

      • -4

Nowhere on Kogan does it say its genuine.

    • +5

personally i dont trust generic replacements for filters as i dont know if they work, or if they are sending any particles into the air. i just take a better safe than sorry approach.

      • +1

Well, for the models which have a particle sensor, you can sorta see the proof either way for yourself. Having said that, who knows whether the particle detector can detect tiny particles, and MAYBE the genuine ones filter those out better …

        • The one time I purchased a third party filter off ebay it had a strong chemical/solvent kind of smell that was hard to get rid of. The sensor didn't notice it at all.

          • @garbage man: Well yeah … It's a particle sensor. Not a VOC sensor. I don't think the volume of charcoal in a legit filter is going to absorb much of that garbage if you had it in your room, but great to know the knock off ones generate their own ;)

      • how do you know if the real ones work?

  • +4

I still have my 3H Air Purifier since about 2021. Faultless.

    • Me too.

How many times have you replaced the filter in that time?

      • +1

Just twice. I Have a spare here ready to go but the last one still seems good. I vacuum the filter fairly regularly and clean the housing to prolong it. I gnore the 6 month replacement warning. How about you?

        • Haven't replaced it yet, other than vacuuming it to ensure it is clean.

My rational is that I only have it running for 2 or 3 hours a day.

However I'll probably buy a couple of spares through this deal.

          • @clandestino: Mine is in the bedroom and set for 8 hours use at night, while sleeping. Turns on, turns off. repeat. Just have to remember to clean it and switch it off if going away for longer than a couple of days. Silent too. A later model allows more access to clean inside the fan but I'm ok with this one till it dies.

            • @siwi666: These things hardly do anything unless on the 3rd setting which definitely is not silent.

    • Mine started transmitting multiple Gb of data per day for a while.

Auto mode is stupid. Sensor seems insensitive.

      Otherwise good.

Just ordered last week at $54.99. Definitely waited a long time for discounts but never seen.

  • Plus, stacks with $5 off first app purchase.

  • +1

Is it safe to cancel kogan first subscription straight after ordering?

    • Yes, that's what I did.

    • I have the same question

  • Are these beneficial for people with allergies to pet hair and dust?

    • can't speak personally, but the wife claims it helps a lot.

    • yes

  • +3

thanks, had a 3H a couple years. honestly the filter remaining % is such an arbitrary value scam but im sure im due for a token replacement.

  • Wonder if this filter will fit in my Phillips air purifier, size seems similar

  • Do you guys use the dust catching sheets over the top? Otherwise you can vacuum the filter occasionally. I cannot remember how to reset the filter but I think you just need to unplug it for a minute and then hold down the screen button as you turn it on.

    • +2

It depends on the model, but there is a method to reset the filter time for all of them. The older ones just have a reset process on the unit, the newer ones you reset the rfid tag itself using the nfc reader in a phone.

    • To reset, I followed this way and worked fine :
      https://unethical.info/2024/01/24/hacking-my-air-purifier/?u…

  • How often does one need to replace these? just curious

  • This one is genuine, have purchased it multiple times from same.

  • Re useable hepa filters and stuff exist now aye

  • Is there a good air purifier where you can simply clean and reuse the filter rather than having to replace after x number of days like this one?

    • You can do it with these.

  • compatible with Xiaomi Smart Air purifier 4 pro?

  • OOS

  • 10.26pm(UTC8) : sold out. 😔

  • +1

FWIW I ordered two of these before this bargain was listed - they arrived today. Definitely genuine - fitted perfectly (one 2S, one 3H), RFID read etc. All good.
