Anyone Bought from Chrono24 before?

I've been looking for a specific model of watch and found a few of them on Chrono24, but I've never purchased from there before so I'm wondering if anyone has tips or suggestions. I would imagine that like all online marketplaces it's best to stick with sellers who have lots of high feedback and ensure the description matches the photos, etc. The one I want is not too expensive so I don't expect it'll attract much in the way of duty or GST (if it gets stopped at all), but I'm taking that into consideration. Anything else to consider or be wary of?

I have bought and sold plenty on C24. Including high end 10-20-30k pieces.

    My recommendations:

    1. Use a reputable dealer with good feedback, if not available then:

    2. Use a private seller that offers the escrow service. You send money to C24, they send watch. You verify it’s genuine, then C24 releases the funds. If you cannot do either 1 or 2, then:

    3. Do not buy the watch from C24.

  • Might I ask what watch? New or second hand? Vintage? Etc.

    • No worries. It’s a Citizen NY0100-50X that I missed out on a couple years ago and is no longer available from them. I’m unable to find them new here in Oz except for a single location in Geelong, plus the usual grey market sellers for close to the same price. There’s a few on C24 for less, including a dealer in Italy who has a feedback score of 4.9 from 5200+ reviews. What I’m unsure of is it worth saving $150-$200 over buying locally.

      • The one in Geelong for me says $690. The one in Italy shows as $697.

Just confirm you’ve got AUD selected as the currency on C24? It screws out sometimes.

In any case. For $150-200 - I’d go Geelong. Faster postage, no import GST (which if they wanna sting you for based on RRP could be $100 plus an $80 admin fee). Plus easier returns and Australian warranty if something goes wrong.

        • Hmmm…interesting, thanks for checking. The .com website says AU$454+$35 shipping, but the .com.au version changes to close to what you saw. I agree a local seller is better in almost every respect, but I was swayed by a seemingly cheaper price. Good thing I asked!

It was also meant to be a low-cost trial run for when I’m ready to spring for a proper Tudor Pelagos. I’m not keen to splash out full price of $7k-$8k for brand new when I know full well you can get near-new from C24 for about $2000 less. If you know somewhere better then I’m open to suggestions.

          • @Chazzozz: $494 USD = $697 AUD so I suspect that’s the error. As I mentioned, sometimes C24 screws up the currency even though you change it to AUD.

Pelagos…depending on the model, can easily be had for ~$4000 in Australia if you’re willing to go grey dealer (which I would highly recommend).

  • I would suggest you request for more photos. If they don't reply, avoid.

    • You can’t list a watch on C24 without physically having it on hand. They ask for multiple specific timestamps on the watch (e.g. provide a photo with the time set to 2:47). Plus a serial number check, prior to allowing the listing to go live.

If it’s a good fake, you need it in person to get checked by a watchmaker hence why escrow is the safest option.

I haven’t found anyone who wasn’t more than willing to provide more photos.

The most common scams on C24 affect sellers, where the buyer receives the watch and reports it as a fake and the escrow will not release the money, or they get the watch, Frankenstein another and send the old one back for a refund. Plenty of those horror stories online, however buyers being scammed I’ve rarely seen or heard of anything in 10+ years of watch collecting.
