Woolworths has a program called 'Bunch', which Everyday Reward card holders can sign up for. As a member, you'll receive a free food sample (usually Woolworths own brand), when you scan your everyday rewards card at the checkout the item cost changes to $0.

Then you review the item on the Bunch website after trying it. These reviews are published by Woolworths on their grocery website.

Personally I tend to average 2-3 sample offers a month, you'll also get a 2 piece cheesecake pack for your birthday.

They have other sections to chat with other people, swap recipes etc, I've never bothered with this and it doesn't seem to reduce the samples I'm offered. I've also left several 1 star reviews with no penalty either.

Membership is currently at capacity, but if you go to this link you can join a waitlist.

https://bunch.woolworths.com.au/s/register-your-interest

I was on the wait list for about 6 months before I got in.

EDIT: the bonus sample is for your bunch anniversary, not your birthday. Some commenters say that the reward depends on your bunch level (determined by activity level).

Wait list is now 18 years due to being ozbargained.
    lol

  • +19

I waited 2 years to be accepted.

    • Same, almost 2 years. Think depends where you located too how long time it takes.

  • +10

I am bunch member and haven't got anything this year ! Looks like they are reducing freebies or evetually shutting it down.

    • Are you active on the platform? Do you review the products you get? I got 10 products this year.

    • +5

Often, there are limited products available. When you receive an email, you must claim the product promptly. I got this year shredded cheese, Thai green curry, Stir fry, chickpeas, cake, chicken fillets, almonds, pistachios, mould killer, lollies, seasoning, serviettes.

    • +7

I've received at least 10 this year too.

Some highlights this year for me: 300g Porterhouse, 300g Wagyu Burgers, 1.1kg Cottage Pie.
Got a 2L BBQ sauce which seems excessive though!

      • 10? Is that all? I've purposely unselected all the meat/deli products and literally get 2-3 per month, not including the limited release products.

        I've had about 20.

    • +8

I'm a member and get one every week. It depends on your level which is dependent on your activity on there. They aren't just going to keep giving you samples if you don't participate. The whole purpose of the samples is to review them so that woolies get the feedback

      • -6

Well not really, I have never reviewed anything and only had a single account shut down after probably 8 years of non-review. All other accounts are still happily getting 1~2 samples a month.
Totally clueless how they are doing it, maybe they are just showing some leniency to the very early "founding" members.

    • -3

I am a bunch member and all I got this year was salmonella.

    • i actually got 3 this month ..also the best i’ve ever been offered too

  • +2

Signed up now, thanks. Did’nt even know about this. How long has everyone waited to get thier access?

    • +2

      I waited 2 years.

    • +2

      2 years

      • -1

        Damn, that sucks

        • -2

Was is worth it nope all freebies are gone I mean the good ones the shit ones are always there but at the end of the it’s free so meh

          • -1

@WwDesi: every email i’ve been offered i have been able to apply for

    • I've been waiting about 18 months so far.

Stuff this. Home brands are a conflict of interest that enables unsustainable tactics. Say no. Or get them free and give them terrible reviews.

    • +6

Please explain? It sounds like you are connected to a producer/manufacturer.

As a consumer, home brand provide options, and are a great way to save.

      • +13

Supermarkets intentionally de-stock alternatives and originals for their own products. They drive both originality and quality to the bottom of the barrel. There's a lot of ruthless despot behaviour from supermarkets if you really want to look, it's quite interesting

        • +3

I’ll wager this is one of those cases where ignorance is bliss. But I feel bad for any farmers dealing with these mongrels.

        • +2

It's worse in Australia where the market is essentially a duopoly (Aldi is growing but not everyone is a fan, and they equally have their own home brands)

        • -1

They’re a private company so they can do whatever they want. If you don’t like it, you have many other options (the duopoly reddit/ozbargain/whirlpool likes to whinge about doesn’t actually exist).

Home brands are usually much cheaper than the branded alternative so it’s not really a terrible thing for the consumer - in any case, I find a lot of things I like to buy still don’t have a home brand equivalent…

  • +7

I have given up on this , nearly all of the time they don't even stock the freebie!

    • +1

      Very annoying when this happens

    • The items can be nutritiously hard to locate due to not knowing if it's a freezer, fridge or shelf item and differing store layouts. I visited 3 different stores before locating a $2 item once, only to realise I walked right past it in the first store.

      • The items can be nutritiously notoriously hard to locate…

        FTFY

    • that’s strange as it’s woolies branded items that i usually get offered

  • +5

90% the stuffs Ive got is their homebrand products. Most are terrible.

  • +1

Just realised I joined the waitlist in 2020 and got accepted in 2021 but missed the welcome email. Can’t rejoin waitlist now :-(

    • it says I have been invited already, I never received the welcome email either (whatever year that was)….so can't join

  • -2

Does this stack with the 2¢ off deal?

    • Doesn't matter, the value of the sample just gets deducted as a direct discount.

  • +2

    Delete this….

  • +2

    2-3 samples a month - hardly.
And honestly most of the offers I decline as they're items I'm not interested in trying.

    • +2

Sound like you are not their target market.

    • +3

2-3 samples a month - hardly. And honestly most of the offers I decline as they're items I'm not interested in trying.

Here's a thought exercise - think about giving up your spot for someone on the waitlist. Your answer is obviously going to be "No", as you're clearly benefiting, so stop with the whinging ffs.

      • +1

No whinging, just offering some information for others considering joining. But thanks so much for your reply/personal attack

    • Even if you don't want to try it you can still donate it to a food bank.

    • same as me but this month i’ve been offered 3 really good items ..chocolate mud cake , 700grams of the pulled beef brisket , and also crumbed fish pieces ..these are the best i’ve ever got

  • Is there anything similar at Coles?

    • +2

nope closest is Flybuys when they give one item for free once in a blue

  • +1

Been a member for about 5/6 years now after being on wait list about 18months and it’s great. Get about one sample a month on average and it’s usually a pretty decent item. Recent items been a 12 pack of oven baked bars, lasagna microwave meal, popcorn packet etc.

It’s usually always a home brand or macro branded product but it’s nice to get for free.

Around Christmas they usually tend to give out packs of home brand meat for free

    • +1

Not worth the neg, if you were already in you shouldn’t care.

    • -1

      Incorrect use of neg

  • +1

What? Ive never gotten a birthday sample. Its usually some recipe book or something :(

    • +2

Yeah I don't recall getting any b'day sample, but I do get a "bunchiversary" one, this year's (last month) was

      Woolworths Lemon Madeira Cake 315g

      • I got a recipe book for that too!! Lol guess it just hates me 😂

  • +4

I found that they only release a limited number of 50 to 100 redemptions each month and its first come first serve so very hard to get samples unless you frequently check for the email.

    • +2

The limited samples are only done sometimes. And yes you have to be quick - for them. But if you are active in the site you will get at least a sample a week - you just log in and claim those ones - you have a month to claim and collect.

    • +3

It depends on your level. ‘Gourmet’ level which is the top level get 1 sample per week + the opportunity to get the limited release about every 6 weeks. Level of participation determines sample frequency.

    • i think i’ve only missed out once or twice so i must be lucky n check my email at the right time

  • +8

It’s not always cheesecake for your birthday. Last year I got a mud cake and this year I got one of their Wombat log cake things.

    • It depends on your tier for birthday freebie I'm sure. Got nothing last year as wasn't as active and fell back to level 1, only got access to online recipe book from memory!

  • This reminded me to check my email - joined 7/4/23 and the email says wait time is approx 12 months. More than 2 years on still not accepted lol

  • +1

Ok be honest with me guys it was my birthday recently and no nothing from Bunch. I get the freebies and do the rewards. Some freebies are impressive but it also gets you doing a big shop as you feel warm loved by them.
There is no were on the Bunch site to put your birthday as well.

    • +1

I’ve been a member for years and have never got anything for my birthday, let alone cheesecake? Dunno where the OP got that from?

      • My bad, it was for my bunch anniversary, not my birthday.

  • Checked my email…

    date: 13 Aug 2022, 15:38
subject: Thank you for joining the bunch waiting list

Been 3 years and still not in :(

  • -1

If a product is free then you are the product.

  • Joined waitlist in 2018, crickets

  • +1

I’ve done over 200 reviews and barely get free shit. My mate never does reviews and gets a free shit every 2 weeks

    • +1

I think you probably need to earn badges in other areas and participate more? If you don't already?

      Bunchee / bunch level:
Your bunch level moves up and down depending on your appreciation and participation scores.

Your appreciation increases when other members like, comment or share your posts.

Your participation increases when you post or interact with content on bunch.

    • +1

Yeh I don’t review. I get heaps of freebies lol

    • The fact that you’ve done over 200 reviews does not not mean you’ve had over 200 free things?

      • +1

no , it just means he has tried over 200 items on their website that you are able to put a review down for ..but it doesn’t mean that he got them through free bunchie offers

    • wow i’ve only done about 5 reviews in about 6 years and get offered about once every 2-3 months but this month i surprisingly got 3 fantastic offers

  • I didn’t review and was removed , had to rejoin wait list

    • Did they send you the stuff or you need to come to WW to pick up?

      • +1

They've never sent anything, you always need to go in store, find it (sometimes there won't be stock), scan your EDR and the price for the item will be removed (free).

Even during COVID lockdowns they didn't send anything - they did have a longer time to collect though

  • I’ve been on the waitlist since November 2022.

  • +1

I love Bunch, it gives me the opportunity to try things l wouldn’t normally buy. I think membership is hot and miss. My sister has been on the waiting list for years, yet we know someone that just applied and got in straight away.

    • I think it depends on the store location. Maybe the strategy is to select a remote store for application, but you can actually redeem the freebies at any store.

  • +2

Better sign my newborn kids up now

  • +3

This is a great way to fill up your pantry with odd items such as Organic Quinoa, almond flour and half a kilo of Himalayan rock salt.

  • waitlisted from 2022.08.15

  • Thanks OP, I've registered for the waitlist and received the confirmation emails. Do you know if you need EDR promo/offer emails enabled?

  • I got a free sample of woolworth 1kg skim milk powder, but when i checked out i had to pay. Thos is first time happened to me. Has anyone experienced this?

    • I’ve had a few times at self check out where it hasn’t deducted the sample cost and I’ve had to ask for assistance.
They took me to the customer service counter to try and scan it themselves.

Once it worked, another time they asked if it was the same item as the one in the offer and they tried to grab another one off the shelf to test and it still wouldn’t work.
In the end they scanned it and did some kind of manager override so they could give it to me.

Another time it wouldn’t scan they kept trying with no luck and said I should try again tomorrow. I didn’t bother trying again.

That said I’ve only had those few times it failed out of many successful ones.

      • Ic… good to know that this issue does happen.
