Arlo Essential Indoor 2K Camera (2nd Generation) $34 + Delivery ($0 C&C/In-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

80

I went into Bunnings and they price matched and we paid $30 for them instead. Pretty good price for Arlo imo. Looks like it is $67 everywhere else, Officework will only do it for $34, no less. Already currently have Arlo external wireless cameras so figured I would keep it all the same brand. Currently dont pay for subscription as I download any video I may need within the 7 days. Not sure if I can do the same with this one as I am reading mixed reviews about whether it holds for 7days like the older models. But it does look like you can now connect the essential cameras to the hub now.

Bring it down too $24 with welcome $10 nice

  • If you go through the JB HiFi reviews for this product you'll notice that it gets 4.2 stars⭐, not stellar but good.
But you may also notice that they've handpicked 35 of the 42 reviews from the Arlo website, averaging 4.6 stars⭐.
Only 6 reviews come from JB HiFi and 4 of them are only 1 star⭐, making the average in store reviews only 1.8 stars⭐!
Who planted these Arlo reviews? It clearly changes the reviews from a nasty 1.8 stars⭐, to a respectable 4.2⭐!!

    • Fair call, but if buyer did their own research, I'm sure they would have come to the same conclusion as me below.

1 - I can't even connect to it remotely from my phone even though the camera is on and connected to the wifi
This is not true, you can absolutely connect to the camera without the subscription. All my Arlo can be accessed via the app, only ever signed up for subscription once. Never have an issue unless there is a power outage or internet is down.

2 - The camera itself is not too terrible, but the mobile app and automation (e.g. geofencing) is very unreliable and useless. The app also can eat up a lot of battery if left to run in the background. There's no local storage, so you have to use the cloud storage which costs 7 bucks a month and over time it adds up to more than what you'd pay for a better camera like the eufy ones. Don't waste your money on this camera.
You can connect to the hub and store files there. I have my app running in background and I dont have battery issue, my partner is the same (we use both Apple, Samsung). TBH, fair enough if you dont have the hub, but if you do, it makes sense to buy the same brand so you can access all cameras all at once.

3 - Caution, this is not compatible with Arlo Base Stations, so you cannot record video locally, making you dependent on Arlo paid subscriptions to retrieve video
Can confirm it does connect to the Hub. They did have an update last year so either the person didnt add the camera correctly, or it wasnt available to them at the time.

4 - Rubbish product àrlo don't replace under warranty they avoid replacement. Do not buy arlo worst product
Fair - I cannot confirm this one, but can say I have had my camera for 7 years and never had to claim anything under warranty so was it user error? We will never know.
