Does This Look Like Bent Pins? CPU Socket on The Motherboard (PC from Techfast)

Hi all,

I bought a prebuilt gaming PC from Techfast.

I replaced the motherboard with a full ATX motherboard. Now I want to sell the one that came with the PC but noticed what seems to be bent pins (photo below)

Can you guys confirm this, and if I should claim warranty for a refund or replacement? Anyone has experience doing this with Techfast?

Thanks.

EDIT: I'll assume the loss, everyone here are very quick to judge based on assumptions. The motherboard could've been working even with bent pins (even confirmed by TechFast), so the fact that it was working when they did the test it wouldn't be enough evidence to claim that the pins were bent after I removed the CPU and motherboard, so there's still an element of uncertainty.

Anyway, I was asking because I genuinely don't remember doing anything that could've caused this, nothing against TechFast nor trying to take advantage of the situation, it was more of an enquiry. Only a few people providing useful feedback unfortunately, with plenty of keyboard warriors trying to sound smart and adding no value.

How do we know you didn't bend them replacing motherboard?

I think the issue here is that you don't know if it worked prior to making changes to it so you don't have a baseline of what is and isn't working.

If it didn't work before you changed the motherboard then you definitely have a claim for warranty.

According to their test everything was working. And I'm not saying that it's not working anymore because I haven't tested it, I just noticed what looks like bent pins, maybe slightly that it wouldn't affect? I don't know, hence my question.

Regardless, if the computer was working fine when OP purchased it then there is no justification for any claim.

Seems they were bent when CPU removed, so not a warranty issue :/

But you can try it on :P

How can you bend them removing the CPU? genuine question because I just release that small lever and the CPU came out without forcing anything, it becomes pretty loose so not sure how can you bend them just by removing the CPU.

      • +1

Easy to do with even slight twisting motion on removal :/

They're extremely small and soft. Any side ways movement can bend them. You could've easily done it removing the CPU and not realised. They could easily have done it installing the CPU however they have a test showing everything was OK and you've altered the configuration. Any sort of claim is going to be very tough and easily explained by your actions.

        • Yes, they did a 5 minute test. Also they confirmed by email that these bent pins won't necessarily cause issues, so that proves my point that the pins were not necessarily bent after I received the PC and it could've happened before.

But I understand I'm against all odds here 😔

    • According to their test, yes. But I removed the motherboard as soon as I received the PC. Didn't come with the GPU installed either so I didn't turn it on when I received it.

Should've tested the PC first before removing the parts.

        • To confirm that everything was working fine even with bent pins?

            @charminglf:

To confirm that everything was working fine even with bent pins?

            FTFY

          • +2

@charminglf: You didn't know they were bent when you first received PC. So you never plugged it in and turned it on to confirm that it worked before changing out the parts?

PC working fine till CPU removed
found bent CPU pins after CPU removed
    Warranty issue

    yeah nah

Working fine for the 5 minute testing, yes

      • +9

Significantly longer than your 0 minutes of testing.

      • Usually it's a works or doesn't work situation with bent pins, you either get lucky and it's a ground pin or excess one, or it just won't run (and worst case things start cooking)

I feel your pain, likely it would have run forever like that (hard to tell from the photo, but doesn't look like any pins are crossing). But you had the joy of finding it. It'll just be a matter of working through the issue with Techfast (or if you have a magnifying glass, trying to fix it). Might be worth getting a cheap CPU to test it with, or just wearing the loss and selling it as is to recoup what you can.

  • lol 😂
I had a similar experience with a motherboard.
Gigabyte replaced the cpu holder under warranty.

I bought a prebuilt gaming PC from Techfast.

    mistakes were made.

  • I've got a motherboard exactly like that. I did it. Because of peripheral nerve damage on my left side I fumbled when I was popping out the CPU, and dropped it on the socket. I'm not sure whether to take the risk nothing is short circuited, and damage could result, or to just chuck it.

    • In my case I didn't drop anything on that socket, anyway will ask Techfast what they think

So it was working when you got it, you've replaced the motherboard, now the pins are bent. Such a mystery as to who caused this issue 😂

I know! so funny right? 😂😂😂 do you do stand up comedy by any chance? mate I laughed so hard…you have the facts wrong but otherwise, great joke! 😂

  • +3

If it was fully working when you got it, then you replaced the motherboard and now has bent pins, then there can be only one reason, and the answer is you did it.

  • +4

fully working when you got it and they have a test report which they can provide (I assume)
replaced the motherboard which now has bent pins (some pins on a socket are redundant, but 5-6 in a small area which are bent = dead)
you did it. lesson learnt for future. end of story.

Doesn't look bad, might still work fine. Not all pins are actively used, looks are ground pins, NC - no contact etc.

  • Yep they're bent. I bought a 2nd hand mobo off Ebay that looked almost the same when I got it. I bent the pins back into shape with a small sewing needle. You need good eyesight, good light(done mine in sunlight)and a steady hand.

Thanks to the few people that provided useful feedback, this is worse than Reddit lol
