Referrals - Why Clear The Field When It Expires?

For the uptheenth time, ozbargain wants me to update my redenergy referal number.

I'm sick of having to do this what seems to be every three months. Why cant it be a "has it changed, Y \ N - if NO then enter new one"
rather than a ha! it's now wipes, now you have to remember your red energy log in and get it again!

:(

    • Referral systems change. If they do, then it can be reported to us so we don't have broken referrals.
    • Referral codes change, sometimes for no particular reason.
    • People move from electricity providers which is why it is set to 3 months. Most are set to 12 months.

It's intentional. We want you to log in and get a code/URL, see if anything is different etc.

    • +4

      But it sucks

  • Regarding the URL changing, I remember when tightarse was a rep for Cashrewards and they mentioned:

They may change on a regular basis as it's a requirement from our provider (Talkable) for reasons I can't explain here

My suggestion would be to comment on Comments / Feedback / Suggestions Thread 2024/2025 to implement a new feature where the existing referral is auto populated including a tick box 'I have confirmed this referral link is current and valid'.

Then, the onus would be on the referrer to make sure their details are current or they won't get any new referrals.

    • But if you have to confirm if your code/URL etc is valid, then you'd have to log in to the retailer to check. So what's the difference?

I remember when tightarse was a rep for Cashrewards and they mentioned:

The counter example would be Globird which only have a 14 day validity before they expire. If OP thinks 3 months is annoying imagine the 255 people who have to keep generating links every 2 weeks!

      • The referral codes that expire will obviously need to be retrieved and entered.

I believe the OP's issue is that the referral code is the same but they need to enter it each time. The majority of times the existing code will still work.

The 3 month / 12month check ups are definitely a good idea, as that would effectively clean out any old referrals that are no longer used (like you mentioned, if people have moved providers rendering the old referral obsolete).

  • Oh Noes, I have to expend a little time and energy for freebies …. waaaaahhh
