I was searching for an affordable pod machine because I need one for an 8-week training period away from my regular machine. This deal looks great since you're essentially getting the machine for free when you buy the pods.

I found the machine at Big W, where I ultimately made my purchase yesterday. I joined the Big W Inner Circle, added a $6 item to my order, and used a $10 discount on a $75 purchase that I received for signing up. I paid the remaining balance with a Big W gift card that I bought at a 5% discount through Everyday Mobile. In total, I spent $56 on the machine and pods.

Edit: The machine bundle just went up to $119 at Big W.

Can I alternatively recommend a French Press and a hand grinder, for your 8 week away period.

I bought the modo mio Jolie with the separate "milk easy frother" when Kogan had a recent special. Quite happy with it. Better coffee than I was expecting. Not going to replace the top cafes in Melbourne or anything, but it's quite good. Before the purchase, I was using a mocha pot and sometimes an Aeropress at home.

French press isn't going to give you a stronger espresso or espresso-like coffee. A mocha pot can get nearer to that though, and might be good for 8 weeks along with a hand grinder or pre-ground coffee.

The pods aren't cheap, but you can find them on special at times. Costco as sold them for about $54 for 96 of them. A bad price is $15 for 16 of them, which seems to be standard retail price.

      • Moka Pot will make way superior coffee to this thing. Especially if you know how to use it. There is a reason 9 out of 10 households have a moka pot in Italy. Also mitigates the risk of microplastics.

      • Today, I paid $35 for a damaged carton from Amazon Warehouse that contained 96 coffee pods for this machine. I already have a Breville Barista Impress at home, which I received through a product test, and I'm satisfied with it. However, since I will be away for an 8-week training soon, I decided to get this pod machine.
