Ryobi Battery Line Trimmer and Mower Recommendations

Hi guys, I'm looking to purchase a Ryobi battery line trimmer and mower. I don't have any Ryobi tools and/or battery at this point.

Have around 150sqm of Sir Walter Buffalo to mow. Use the line trimmer to do all the edges. I was thinking to go with the 36V rather than 18V platform, better to have more power than have under-powered tools.

Any recommendations? Not sure how many batteries I would need, buy separate or kit etc. If you were in my position, what would you buy?

Thanks.

Both have plenty of great reviews. Trimmer can be used with an edger attachment.

I have the Trimmer and it's great. I'm looking to upgrade to the mower. I did look at the 36V mowers but it's too heavy as I do want something I can transport around.

As for batteries, the 18V batteries are cheaper. I would have at least 2 batteries at 4 or 5Ah. The mower and trimmer comes as a bundle. That should be enough to get you started. Additional batteries can be found on FB marketplace for cheap.

  • I have ryobi gear. The 36v brushless mower does a decent job. Does around 250m2 of lawn. It speeds up under load but that chews battery so its better to mow a bit slower in tougher sections. Cannot do the whole lawn on a single 5ah battery if its been let go a bit long.

I use an 18v line trimmer, but had a 36v for a while. I sold the 36v line trimmer because there wasnt enough battery to do the mow and edges in one charge - approx 300m of edges as i have lots of sections.

What i dont like about ryobi 36v stuff is the separate battery standard, and they arent cheap. Would prefer if i could use 2x18v batteries. Other brands do 2x18v gear.

I bought my mower second hand for $250. I also buy ans sell ryobi stuff far too often swapping and changing to suit bargains found on marketplace and upgrades I think are worth it.

    • Yeh so I feel an 18V line trimmer will do the job, but pretty convinced I want a 36V mower. But then don't want 18V one tool and 36V another - can't interchange batteries if needed.

    • Sorry which 36V mower do you have?

      and which 18V line trimmer?

      • Not sure on model numbers, but its a brushless 36v 46cm mower a few years old.

The line trimmer is 18v brushless straight shaft with the motor at the battery end, not the trimmer end.

If you might want additinal garden gear, the 36v stuff is heavier. I had a 36v hedge trimmer and while it was more powerful, i found it much heavier and preferred the 18v version so i sold the 36v. This is why i would like a 2x18v mower.

  • I have the 36v line trimmer 33/38cm

It gets around 30min run time on the 4ah battery using Ryobi 2mm line. Plenty powerful, easily better than our old 2 stroke one and far smoother to use.

    • This appears to be the cheapest line trimmer kit. Is the 2mm line ok?

  • I got the 18V ONE+ HP 38cm one from Bunnings a few weeks ago for $279. I bought a 3rd party battery and charger off ebay. For the same price you could also get the 36V 28/33cm version.
I chose the 18V cause my lawn is smaller than yours and cause the batteries would be cheaper as well as the promise of other attachments being compatible with the ONE+ range if I ever chose to install something else.

It's been good for me, run time hasn't been an issue and with third party batteries being cheaper, you could probably just get an extra battery if you're worried about operating time.

  • Avoid the Ryobi 36v, I have had 2 battery failures and they are expensive..
    No 18v failures.

  • 18V ONE+ HP™ Brushless Whisper™ 33/38cm Line Trimmer Tool Only

    R18XLTR30

I use this and I love it, I haven't used my 2 stroke since getting it, dual line, plenty of grunt for 18v.

I had borrowed someone's single line 18v and hated, where this is great.

  • If you're thinking Ryobi 36V, then I would ask you to get the Greenworks 60V mower and trimmer, with second battery or edger for $699
    Look it up
