Robot Vac Repair - out of Warranty - Go Back to Brand or 3rd Party? (Ecovacs Deebot T9+)

hi all, even after several resets our deebot T9+ seems to have lost it's mind. Just stops alot, very intermittent cleaning of a warehouse floor around 7mx15m.

wondering if there's any difference going to a local repairer (ABCD Clean, Robot Specialist) instead of back to Ecovacs in terms of price and service.

It's been running for 2 1/2 years but been pretty flaky for the last 12 months I reckon.

any experience of suggestions welcome!

I had a similar issue with my N8+, would barely get through half an hour of cleaning before just shutting off. Replaced the battery with a $35 one from eBay and it's back to brand new, would recommend this as a first port of call.

    • EDIT - just ordered one off ebay, stands to reason it's a bit cooked after 2.5 years! They're going for $65 which is still waaaay less than what a service charge from ecovacs is.

thanks for the reply, that's really good to know.

interestingly it often it does 0-3m of cleaning (1-15 mins) and is reporting 80% battery left - and found in an aisle or under a shelving unit.

was your battery still reporting charge but still shutting off?

Yup, exactly the same - I’d put it back on the dock, it’d immediately wake up and say it had 65% or similar. Seems to be a common issue.
Replacement is also easy as (assuming the T9 is broadly the same), undo eight or so screws, pull off the battery cover, unclip the old battery, chuck the new one in, and that’s it.

So its 18 months passed warranty and been used in a commerical setting.

As for the cost of a repair, might be as cheap as a battery like above, or crazy amount more than the machine is worth.

Looking online, heaps of used ones for $400 Mark, or new for $1300.

Try a new battery, if not grab a used or new one and save the hassle.

      sums it up well imo.

I'd love to see what a "warehouse floor" is

I would like to get a commercial one, but cleaning under our racking is very important and the bigger units can't go there. It's a polished concrete floor, we're e-com, consumer goods and a pretty clean environment.

    • thanks, just ordered a new battery. yeah the repair bill is a real unknown and potentially not worth it. I've also given it a good clean, cleaned the inside of the top lidar sensor that was definitely dusty, deleted all maps again, reduced the suction to see if I can get the floor remapped again. As I've got a later model at home, troubleshooting and knowing some cost effective fixes may get more life out of my other one too!

  • Sometimes I think if these robot vacuums could speak they would sound exactly the same as Marvin from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
