Corsair RMx Vs RMx Shift PSU Differences?

I found the shift model is normally cheaper than the non-shift model. I know the shift model the ports are on the side. is it worth to buy a shift model for a cheaper price?

  • depends on how wide your case is, where your PSU goes and how the cables need to be routed

    • if I can put the shift model in, any difference for the 2 PSU? Why is the shift model always cheaper? Different capacitors? thanks

      • the shift one has connectors coming out the side rather than the back. the connectors that plug in the PSU are also a bit smaller. your case needs to be wide enough. other than that i think they should produce the same wattage. i have no idea about the pricing

  • There's no real world difference between the two beyond inclusion of the 12V-2x6 connector and a better fan type: https://www.corsair.com/us/en/explorer/diy-builder/power-sup…

ATX 2.53: Uses older, standard power connectors and does not have a native 12VHPWR or 12V-2x6 connector.
ATX 3.1: Features the 12V-2x6 connector (a refined version of the 12VHPWR), designed for high-power graphics cards.

The Shift is slightly better based on above so cheaper pricing could just be a demand/supply factor.

      thanks

    • probably better to get the newer ATX version

    • the rm850x and shift both have the ATX3.1 version

  • My 10-year-old case says it is not compatible with the shift model. Corsair website says a minimum clearance of 30mm from the connector side of the PSU to the side panel of your case I just measured than I have 50mm space so it should work

    • I just watched a youtube video and found for my cash the PSU fan will face the wrong side. the PSU fan will face the solid pannel will this be an issue for cooling?

      • +1

yes, the fan needs to suck air in, preferably from outside the case, and blow it out via the grill on the back of the PSU

  • I found the shift model is normally cheaper than the non-shift model.

its the economics of volume at play here I think! ideally Shift includes improvements, rgb etc but is cheaper because many prefer the shift model over the other one i guess!
