  • Thanks i needed more mx-4 so will grab the 8g for 12 bucks.

    • Was that to remount the cpu thing? Like maintanence?

      • Yes when installing new cpu heatsink or gpu heatsink you can re apply the thermal compound with this stuff.

  • I am using G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) Desktop Memory Model F4-3000C15D-16GVRB currently on AM4 MB. If I want to upgrade to 32 GB, will it help or better get same brand and model 32 GBG RAM?

Some mobos are fussier than others, especially if its an older board.
Probably it will work though, but will all run the slower of the speeds each kit is capable of.
But 3000cl15 and 3200cl16 is basically the same speed anyway, so should be fine.

Definitely get the same brand, model and part number. Zen 3 can give a significant performance boost with 4 sticks of RAM vs 2 sticks. Some useful resources:

Interesting, I was doing some research and it was suggested to leave RAM at 16 GB ( 1-3 % upgrade in performance if I upgrade to 32 GB ) and rather upgrade CPU from 2700x to 5700x ( 30-40% in single CPU and 20% in multi cpu performance) which is better investment compared to RAM

I agree with what you say here. Good luck.

        • In a similar situation. My old Dell 5676 from this deal has a 2700x, and I’ve been wanting to upgrade to something like a 5700x or similar too. Aiming for more performance with a much lower TDP. Just unsure if the chipset will support it (x370 from memory).

Probably needs a bios update that never happened, but would be good to hear from someone who’s upgraded successfully.

@jwh: Can't find a BIOS update that's recent enough for that Dell. Dell has no incentive to let you DIY upgrade to 5700x.

          • @jwh: I updated my Asus MB with latest update. Not sure if you can do the same with the Dell one unless they have locked it. Try contacting their support.

        • Just curious why some peoplr upgrade 16gb ram to 32gb if only 1 to 3% performance benefit?

          • +1

@ATTS: Upgrading RAM doesn't have any performance benefit until you are using all of your RAM.

People upgrade their RAM so that they have enough for their use case. It's not a performance booster unless you don't have enough for your use case.

            • @Nom: Thanks for explaining

          • @ATTS: Depends what you're doing. Some applications will make the overall system usage go above 16gb - and if you don't have more, it will start to use the disk drive(s) instead and dramatically slow down.
For most users 16gb is still ok, but if you did something like running a few VMs for networking practice (just a random example) then you could easily go over 16.

            • @wetsandwich: Thanks, the disk usage was that the vram thing?

          • @ATTS: Video editing, opening multiple programs or tabs in browser comes to mind.

  • is this much of a deal if 32gb is usually around $100?

    • Yes, some (most?) people really only needs 16GB. Plenty for web browsing, youtube, ms officing and most games, even AAA titles are optimized to use only 16GB. Some heavy games (Forza 5 for me), other like DCS, FS will take up all you give it, but those are not that popular games to recommend everyone getting 32GB. 50 bucks saved is 50 bucks for other Ozbargains.

      • Fortnite uses alot of ram I have hit my 16gb limit with Firefox open.

  • I am currently using single XDATA 16GB(2*8GB) 3200 16CL, my motherboard is Gigabyte X570 AORUS Elite WIFI. It looks I can install this Team T-Force RAM, just would like to see if anyone know whether there will be any problem if I mix different brand RAM?

    Any suggestion? Thanks guys.
