Gate Motor Service/Repair Recommendation in Sydney

Our sliding gate motor has stopped working for sometime, would be nice to have it fixed.

Have already changed batteries in both remotes, so it's not that simple. It's unclear if there's a problem with the receiver or the motor.

Unlike consumer electronics, there's not much help online, and from previous experiences the serviceman will likely make up things to replace, due to lack of self-help information.

May be as simple as changing a fuse or a new capacitor, perhaps a new circuit board, or a new motor, or an entire unit.

Hence looking for recommendations, someone with good reviews and fair on charges.

For a start, there is usually a little display of sorts to show an error code. Then google the error code and brand name. From there you can assess what the possible fix maybe. In my experience for home and work gates, for the price for a tech to come out and even diagnose , may as well just rip it out and start again.

      google the error code

You mean OzBargain the error code

    • I havent seen displays on sliding gate mechanisms.

      • I mean, my experience is limited to the 6 gates I’ve ever had to fix in my life (in laws, work, and home ones) and each time I opened the motor assembly there was one at the pcb. If not… sometimes it can be beeps instead.

And if not… I wonder how a techie would determine short of a bunch of manual troubleshooting.

    • It's a Ditec one, the closest documentation describes a DC model, the PCB has a signal LED to help isolate transmission issues, along with other LEDs to assist with troubleshooting. But ours doesn't have all those LEDs, though the PCB has a similar layout, jumpers, and terminal blocks. The label on the motor specifies AC input, so it must be an AC model, NCV tester confirms power.

A new AC unit is around $750 it seems, but I have not yet look extensively to compare, and to consider automation options.

Is $250 labour reasonable? The mounting holes may not align, but gear and gear rack should match.

      • Ring around for some quotes , you may find it is cheaper to source a new unit yourself then pay for labour for install/ configure.

Turns out the motor we have is an E1 model, not E1A, found the manual from ismartgate, in Hungarian. The diagnostic LEDs are present at different locations, I have taken numerous photos and videos, never noticed them.
