New Gas Signups

Hope 75 days isn't the new norm!

  • By what method the credit send, on the bill, gift card ?

    • +1

      Cashback via Shopback

    • +2

It's a Karta Gift card sent from [email protected]. Can be added to Google wallet/ Apple pay.

Careful not to miss it as it expires a few weeks after they send it if you don't claim it. Then once you active it you have a couple months to use it… Seems they try their best to have it expire before you can use it.

This deal is cashback from ShopBack, not a gift card from Econnex

Existing Compare Electricity and Gas customers who switch to different Compare Electricity and Gas plans/plan at the same premises will be ineligible for Cashback.

    • Does this mean we can’t churn

      • +1

That's what it reads like to me. They might even keep track of using the same "Compare Energy" on Cashrewards, where the T&Cs there also say "Cashback is eligible only for new customers of Compare Energy." Note that CR also has the phrase "Cashback is limited to one transaction per member account every six months through Econnex". I believe that is what it used to be, but the "new customer" restriction essentially overrides that.

Days of churning through CR and SB appear over. At least there are some good deals directly through he providers themselves.

Also note it says confirmed in 120 days so if you wanted to wait until the CB has been approved prior to switching away then take that timeframe into consideration.

  • Does the electricity account need to be in the same name as the cashback account holder?

  • Damn I signed up electricity yesterday for $100 cashback. Anyway to cancel it and sign up again?

Get ready for dozens of spam calls daily once you enter your details on Ecconnex or similar energy comparison portals 🫤

    • any advice on how to avoid this? Can we sign up with a dummy number or will you need the number for verification and all?

      • there is a do not call register you submit your number too. https://www.donotcall.gov.au/ Takes like 5 seconds.
I've had to update it after a few years went by as the calls started happening again. It was definitely because of ecconex haha.

I've used Econnex to switch several times over the years.

I have never been called by them.

      • Not by them but other energy marketing companies with who contact details are shared.

        • Interesting. I have never had any calls from energy marketing companies.

    • Signed up theough Econnex, I've never been called by them or other companies.

      • Same! Used them more than once too.

  • Powershop not coming up for VIC, so can't double dip with the $300 powershop signup offer

  • Do you think if I click through on one of these https://www.shopback.com.au/energyaustralia, rather than the direct compare electricity one it wont count as I have used it before? Seems like it?

    • they are the same, both are just ad banners funnelling you to the Econnex comparison site.

  • Powershop not coming up for me in NSW. Sad.

  • All doing credit check now

  • This will stack with the "$125 Welcome Credit on first electricity bill" for Engie plans offered on the SB/econnex portal, right?

    • +1

Seems like it, I signed up to Engie today via this offer.
I saw that offer automatically mentioned and applied through Econnex when I went through the application.

      • Thankyou. Think I will just apply for the credit and change when used up :)

        • +1

Yeah and given the Powershop credit offers usually stack, this one should too

          • @SaveTheManuals: Powershop keeps on thinking I have an EV (no idea why) so won't offer me a non-EV plan :(

            • @bdl: Odd, can't remember but maybe there is an option to filter EV in/out. I swear there was a question somewhere

    • +1

They do stack, just be mindful that Engie has a much higher daily charge, so you really have to churn in 90 or 120 days to even have a slight chance of coming out ahead, by the second billing period you would have lost all benefits from the welcome credit already compare to whatever's cheapest available in your area.

      • Thanks, yes I've plugged it into my Home Assistant monitoring - their daily charge is so eye watering I would need to churn around the 100 day mark to be ahead.

  • This + Powershop's $300 credit = ka-ching!

Cheers OP. My order has already tracked
