Do You Think Nvidia GPU Prices Will Go down with The Announcement of The Super Series?

Thinking of buying a 5080-based PC from Nebula (I'm in Sydney and willing to pay more to get a PC from a shop I can walk into) but I don't really need it right now, nothing interesting coming out for a few months.

I was thinking of ordering around the Black Friday deals and they might be announced by then, ideally I would like a 5080 Super but it seems unlikely they'll launch this year. Even if they do, the extra VRAM will probably mean they're snapped up for AI GPU farms but that would increase the availability of regular 5000 series cards.

What do you think? Do you think the Super series will be available this year? Do you think it'll make a significant difference in price for the regular 5000 series when the Super series is announced/released?

    Magic 8 Ball says …………..

Super won't be out for another 5 or so months.

Nvidia will control the stock of both Super and non-Super, so I don't necessarily see huge reductions either way.

If AI farms really want VRAM, they get their cards modified to 96GB in workshops. (Or whatever the heck the highest density they can feasibly get based on the memory bus width and memory chip density) Or tap their investors to purchase H100s and feed NVIDIA's focus on enterprise customers further.

I would like a 5080 Super but it seems unlikely they'll launch this year.

For what it's worth, I haven't seen SKUs yet.

Nvidia always extract MORE money from customers ;)

Prices only get marginally reduced when they have an over supply of product (which they never had for the 5xxx series)!

  • Nvidia is worse than Apple.

  • Nvidia abandoned PC gamers, they dont give a F anymore, their profit is from AI, gamers now are a afterthought.

They know gamers will buy their crap no matter how much better value AMD cards are now. I switched to AMD when the 4000s series came out and wont go back to Nvidia.

  • I'm still rocking the 1070 and I want to upgrade but the prices are so crazy to me

    No.

But on another point, do you even need it? I'm running a 1070 and can play every game I want at high settings. Unless you're specifically doing machine learning/building your own AI model then there's no need for the latest GPU if it's just for games.

  • Nope, but I wouldn't be getting a 5080 right now. Either get a 5070ti or wait for the super line to at least be announced.
