Found this while looking for a budget spin bike with a decent flywheel. Price is $339, but Amazon has stackable coupons depending on the model/colour:

Red Magnetic – $339.99 - $68 coupon = $271.99
Black/Blue Magnetic Plus – $339.99 - $46 coupon = $293.99
Black/Blue Friction Plus – $339.99 - $51 coupon = $288.99
Black/Red Friction Plus – $339.99 - $68 coupon = $271.99
Orange Friction – $339.99 - $56 coupon = $283.99

Not 100% sure what the practical differences are between the “magnetic” and “friction plus” models (other than the resistance type), but reviews look solid and there’s a fair few of them, so it seems people are happy with it for the price point.

Looks like a good option if you’re chasing a cheap indoor bike for cardio/HIIT. Probably not Peloton-level build but decent for home workouts.

Anyone here own one of these and can chime in on whether the “magnetic plus” is worth the extra ~$20 compared to friction?

  • Seems like magnetic is better per description. Maybe some experts would weight in.

  • What's the difference between Magnetic and Magnetic Plus? Anyone have experience with this particular product?

Looks like slightly different geometries if you look at the frames. I'm guessing the plus is just an updated version.

This tracks, one of the images suggests the plus version has 350lbs capacity vs 300 of the others

In a magnetic spin bike the resistance plates are using magnetic force which increases with proximity but never touches. Friction is creating the resistance through friction, so would be a bit noisier and there's going to be a gradual wear and tear aspect. It wouldn't surprise me at that price point if the top of the line friction model has higher potential resistance than the magnet, but I'm not interested enough to look into it.

    • Man those are some inflated original prices.

Are you suggesting this as a good alternative to the ones posted above?

It is a bit different - no bottle holder and no monitor showing speed, time, distance - unless I’ve missed key details and most likely the resistance is friction rather than magnetic

This is subjective but to my eyes the design also looks less appealing

  • Thanks! Do you know what the flywheel weight is? This info doesn’t seem to be on the Amazon listing.
In relation to friction vs magnetic, the latter is usually superior - quieter and less wear and tear whereas brake pads in friction models may need replacement

  • I have been checking out that brand and the Merach version on Amazon, I like the price point for a new spin bike for occasional home use. Ended up going with the Merach via this deal at $270 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/919979

Delivered last week, easy to put together and works well so far. Feels sturdy enough. I read a review comment saying the friction model is a bit more cumbersome to change resistance level while riding. Where the magnetic model you just turn a knob.
