Classic Qantas; knows when to run promos after I booked 4 overseas tickets haha

Have you ever wondered why they never serve kangaroo as a dish on Qantas flights?

        1. If I were them I wouldn't cook my own logo lol
        2. Roos are harder to prep, you need a lot of oil to make it tender and less gamey, I'd say it's at least equal or trickier than fish. If you reheat it it'll go chewy, but then if you undercook it it'll spoil quicker
        3. Supply. iirc we have a limit on how many roos can be hunted sustainably and I suppose they also have to look at this as well if they want to
        4. Their catering supplier never bothered to
        • You ever tried sous vide kangaroo? That avoids excess oil usage. Also, kangaroo massaman curry in the slow cooker is peak roo meat to me.

      • Asking the real questions haha

        • i did same, booked flights 2 days prior

Don't worry they always price jack when double status is on so you would be paying double for your points

sucks about no longer getting it to lifetime status

    • You know economy is hard, when not many businesses offer lifetime sucking status these days…

    • Makes me wonder if it's worth pursuing velocity instead.

  • Thanks for the heads up

  • +1

Great more points that I can never use

    • +1

Why no use? the points are best to use on flights

      • For sure, but trying to get a business class ticket on QF long-haul is next to impossible and using them on Emirates also seems hard now as they seem to have stopped offering seats after March of next year :(

        • I never think of business class… Obviously, one needs to wait more if expectation is high

This is a test to see if people still want DSC without lifetime. If revenue is in line with DSC with lifetime then they will most likely remove the lifetime benefit moving forward.

    • +4

Yeah, lifetime is the only reason I’d do this. I’ve requalified with 7 months to go, so won’t bother booking any flights during this promo.

    • +1

There will be the usual spike of bookings from government employees so I wouldn't hold my breath for a drop in bookings.

      • +1

If those employees are doing so for the purposes of obtaining double status credits, they may want to check the T&Cs.

  • Wow that's a pretty crap change. Lucky I got my LSG already 🧐 , but def thanks to a few of these promos over the years.

  • Im pretty happy I just made it across LTP but this is a tragic policy change, I’m guessing QF saw wayyy to many people approaching LTG and had to back out

  • With such a short window to register and book, aren't they just targeting a narrow group of people who are in the market to buy anyway?

    • +2

No its mostly for Qantas Status holders who wait for these promotions to then go buy trips to help then attain or retain Qantas Status. However looking in the P1/WP Facebook groups, no ones picking them up anymore due to the new clause.

      • What's the new clause?

        • +5

DSCs no longer contribute to Lifetime Status - personally its a really horrible decision imo, ive netted around 30,000 DSCs alone that went to my Lifetime Status and the fact with zero warning it pops up is sad.

  • Do reward bookings that earn you SC count towards this? I didn't see anywhere or saying cash only

    • If you are not Points Club then no. Any redemption fares will not earn you any SCs.

      • I am points club that's how I know my classic redemptions on Qantas gets me SC

  • Im new to this. Are partner run flights included?

    • +2

No. Must be Qantas coded and Operated. (Exemptions exist for the Finnair wetleases)

      • Is Qantaslink the same as Qantas coded in this context?

        • +1

Yes. QantasLink, Network Aviation, Eastern Airlines Australia, Sunstate Airlines will be fine.

I literally just bought my ticket yesterday..

    • Quick cancel and rebook!

    • Are the prices jacked up during this promo?

  • +1

So I have 3 Business class fully flexible flights already booked in this period. Can I book new flights and cancel old? What are the pros and cons?

    • Anything booked before the promo started doesn't count. If the old ones aren't flex fares then you'll take a hit when you cancel and refund.

Pros is fewer flights to hit status. Cons is the DSC status now doesn't count towards lifetime and fares are generally jacked up.

Yay the people have won! DSC count towards lifetime.

      Yay! Post updated
