I heard contrast / sharpness on black and white e-inc screens is better than on colour ones?

    • +3

yes the technology isn't there yet. This is essentially the first mainstream product of the technology.

    • +2

Yes, but good enough for most of eyes. (KLC has a yellowish texture background - like newspaper, but not on Colorsoft - while checking the reviews)
The BW is 300PPI, while the colour ones are 150PPI (both KLC and Colorsoft). I purchased it for kids so colour display is a must.

F.Y.I. Having said above, kids love the KLC

      • FYI I LUV KLC 2

I have the latest Paperwhite and two generations before it, and the contrast on those are okay but not great, and haven't really improved generation to generation either. I heard the latest one was 'better' but side by side, I see no difference.

How do the batteries go on these compared to black and white… Im sure I can find it, bit figure someone will know and will save others with the same question asking.

    • +2

Charged my KLC a month and a half ago and I think I'm at ~60% battery. I'd say I'm reading 2/3 times a week for an hour or so, so not heavy user.

Don't forget if you have an older kindle to hit Amazon up first, give them the serial numbe;r say it's not working that well any more (eg battery doesn't last long enough) and can they offer a discount on a new one.

They will generally offer a 15% discount and likely ask you to buy it first and then they will refund you the 15% once it arrives.

Do the 15% cashback, wait for it to be paid out (usually a month or two) then hit Amazon up and ask for your 15% off the kindle you bought - just tell them you expected it to automatically apply and kept waiting for your refund but it never happened.

32GB model - full price $379 … end up with $50 cashback via TCB (15% on ex-gst price??) and then $56.85 refund from Amazon a few months later making device around $272.15

    • Wow, do you shoot emails? Or Amazon app chat? Thanks

      • +2

Amazon chat, get on there and say you are looking at a new kindle as your old one is out of warranty and has battery issues.
Ask can they do anything to make it more affordable (can mention a friend got a 15% discount).

The first agent will then transfer you to the Kindle team who have a script somewhere there to offer 15% discount.

I did it 2 months ago +/- for prime day deals (kindles were discounted for prime day sale, still offered the 15% discount off the discounted price).

        • Thanks!

I didn't have any luck with this when I did mine

    • TRS refund (GST $34.5) too if you are going to travel soon.

KLC owner as well here. Out of curiosity, what is your main reason for buying this one too? And not a second KLC for example?

    • For the following:
      1. better background texture (prefer white background not yellowish, I think you know what I am talking about)
      2. better page turn effect (you can check it on YouTube)

And for $320, I think it is easily worth the cost.

I am using KOreader on Kobo, also Libby. I love the KLC too. (and surely will miss the physical buttons)

      • Ok thank you. With the warm light set to 0 the background looks white to me. But maybe I'm not seeing it because I can't compare with another reader.
I always have the warm light pretty high anyway, I'm finding it easier on the eyes in the long term.

  • Great post… Ive wanted the signature one but didn't want to pay 450… But 322 after cash back is easier to digest. Thanks OP

  • Has anyone tried getting TRS for Amazon stuff? Is there an invoice I can get?

    • +1

Yes, you will get an invoice (with $34.45 GST).

    • +3

As a note for everyone, whatever you buy from Amazon AU here, it has to be SOLD and SHIP by Amazon AU, so you can download a Tax Invoice with ABN, therefore eligible for TRS tax refund. There a few Australian ABN sellers sell via amazon AU too, but you will need to hunt for the GST tax invoice. A lot of other sellers in Amazon AU, and ship by Amazon AU, do not have ABN, and will not provide tax invoice with ABN so no TRS refund.

      • Thanks for that everyone

  • thanks, also going overseas in the next 60 days too, so the discount + top cash back + TRS refund, not bad for a new kindle model.

  • Can I use Libby with this?

Has the yellow banding/screen discoloring been fixed yet?

  • Scribe is on discount as well. Anyone can provide a first hand experience of Scribe vs reMarkable?
