Dell price matched JB HI-FI & Amazon again, and the 11% off discount codes still seem to work. It's the same price as the June deal.

I missed the last deal but kept an eye on it since it goes on sale regularly.

I assume the student discount should still work as per @daemon's June post - $954.57 after discount (activate through My Account > Dell Rewards and Membership > Membership with student email).

Wow just had the idea to upgrade to OLED last night and ozb delivers.

Now I gotta choose between this and the 75" TCL (who am I kidding it will eventually be both)

  • I bought this last night from JB being delivered this morning, dam it.

    • +10

Buy this one and return it to JB. Easy.

  • +4

I've wanted to pull the trigger on OLED for so long and this is tempting. But using it primarily for work makes me nervous about text fringing issues :/

    • +4

This is why I'm staying away, too. Productivity all of the time is more important than gaming some of the time.

    • Could try and get a 4K 27 inch OLED one to mitigate that issue

    • +14

The current one is fine. The warranty also covers burn in and is advanced exchange.

I bought the original AW3423DW back in Sept 2022. After about 1.5 years of having it turned on and used as my main work display for 12 hours a day, 5 days a week, I started getting some image retention of the start menu and a patch in the middle of the screen which showed up only in the green screen test. The anti-reflective coating also had a few bubbles appearing. I contacted Dell, they went through the troubleshooting with me, took some photos for them. Then they approved the exchange and sent me a brand new sealed retail box AW3423DW first. Once I was happy, I then sent my old one back to them (they gave me a pickup label which I booked online for the courier to come pick it up at my home, and did not charge for return).

I am now at 2 years with this 2nd AW3423DW monitor, using it in the same way and duration as the first one. However, this second one has not developed any image retention at all. It still looks brand new and the coating is also good with zero bubbles. I think there was an improvement in panel quality partway through the original AW3423DW's production run, and now I expect the new AW3425DW to be like my 2nd AW3423DW, no issues even with heavy use in static screens. Text fringing is not too bad, it doesn't look like fringing at normal distance, just slightly less crisp than a 1440p IPS monitor of the same size. I use mine side by wide with a 1200P 24" Dell U2415, and text crispness is similar. If you look at the text under a magnifying glass, then you can see the slight fringing.

      • +1

Thanks for alleviating my concerns too! I'd be using it 50-50 for work and gaming.

Though I'm trying to HODL out until christmas to see if it can drop in price any further.

      • You work 12h days? 👀

        • Work is usually 10 hours plus meetings with different time zones. But, I do game on this monitor too. 12 hours is conservative and I have also stupidly left the monitor on overnight a few times with it staying on because a video was loaded which prevented monitor standby.

So I do abuse the monitor quite a lot, and still have no issues with it. I would buy another one and I am tempted to, but there is no point having 2x 34" ultra wide monitors.

    • Np issues for me on OLED sofar for my 3 oleds. Kid only plays. COD. Its fine..

  • $955 via student store.

    • +3

      Yep, that's in the post.

      • +2

Legend, sorry I didn't notice it.

  • Does this have burn in issues with OLED?

    • +7

I've had one for 3 years now and no sign of burn in. I use it for 10+ hours a day / 5 days a week for work and don't take any precautions against burn in myself, just whatever the panel has built-in.

      • +1

i kinda wish my old one burns in so i can get the new model hey

        • haha, 100%

  • +2

The 32" 4k OLED comes down to $1,333.38 with this coupon too? This price good? https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/cty/apd/210-BLNW

    • +1

      4k wayyyyy better

      • Depends on your rig, the 4k will be significantly harder to drive.

        • I'm currently on an X38 which runs a bit under 4k res (3840x1600). Wonder what the reduction in frames would be going up to 3840x2160

          • @Grant Miller: It's about 25% more pixels if I'm not mistaken.

Should be easy enough to find some videos online with whatever you you use gaming at ultrawide vs 4k.

I downgraded to a 3060ti while I decide on what GPU to get next but with the 3060ti I get:
60-67fps on the ultrawide (same as yours)
40-45 at 4k (excluding 1% lows cos I'm vram limited)

The 4k numbers are via Apollo/moonlight streaming so I think that costs a bit in perf due to the encoding, maybe 5-10%?

Edit: playing Alan wake 2 dlss ultraPerf, medium preset with low RT

    • It was $1119 on Amazon not long ago, not sure if it will drop further than that though..

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/920651

  • Anyone use this for dual purpose work and play? Any concerns around burnin given static elements often found with work/taskbars, staring at word docs lol.

    • +2

I am using it for both work and play, 3 days a week for 8 hours of work and plenty of hours for gaming.

I just do usual oled recommended stuff like auto-turn screen off after 5 mins, auto hide taskbar etc.

Well worth it to me, over any other screen.

    • +1

I’ve had one for maybe 3 or 4 months and no issues so far in that area. I use it for work 8 hours a day 4 days a week. (I’m in the office one day a way) and then usually 8 hours on a Friday for games. No complaints. Visuals are pretty amazing.

My only issue is I had an S2721DGF 27” 1440 monitor before and just replaced it with this; but I also had a basic S2721D office monitor nest to my gaming monitor before. And they looked identical basically. Whereas the W3425Dw upgrade made everything better in every way except for the fact that the other office monitor looked rubbish then next to it. And the lack of symmetry. The lack of symmetry I can get used to tbh. But the colours being completely different was harder. Not the end of the world. But I am hanging out for a ridiculously cheap monitor to replace my worse one with. It seems from my research that the colours are way better on the newer monitors. But also they seem disinterested in making a 2560x1440 27” IPS monitor these days. They’re expensive. But newer models have “IPS Black” which sounds like it would make the blacks less noticeably different while remaining a cheap IPS panel

  • Can anyone with a student email get access to the student portal (like Samsung education portal) or is it verified that you are a current student?

    • You have to verify with a photo of your ID with the expiry date visible

  • Sigh im assuming my 3070 would struggle with this

    • +2

Well you'd be bottlenecked in newer games, but it would still look good at 144hz. Depends what you're comparing it to and what games you're playing

    • Was running a 970 Strix playing Tarkov on my Acer X34 before my 3070, but only getting about 25-50fps depending on the breeze. Assetto Corsa ran pretty good though. Just depends what you're playing and the level of detail.

I could easily run Notepad at max settings, and maybe even Word at the full 144hz using the 970 with this monitor.

    • not really no, itd still be performing well 150fps or so for games ig

  • +1

    HODL for black friday?

    • +6

Black Friday sales are not what they used to be

    • This is me. I don't NEED it now, so I'm really hoping to see it even sub 950 by the end of the year.

      • I don’t have evidence for this but my view is this seems already amazingly cheap for what you get and I find this hard to imagine being a realistic scenario for you tbh

      • +1

It wont be under 950 unless they have somehow got the production cost of these way down

The US price of these is 700-799

        This is at COST now..

950 is pretty much dell selling it 2 you as 2 capture u as a customer.

  • +1

Is this going to be a noticeable change in size if I'm coming from a 38in Ultrawide?

    • I'm interested to know as well, I'm on an Acer X38.

    • +1

I use my monitor for work & play. Upon closer look on the specs, the 15W usb-c charging and lack of external speakers are rather limiting for work, i.e. need separate charger and speakers/headphones for meetings. Really tempting price though.

    • +3

I have 34”, 38” UWs. I def noticed switching back to the 34” for work. Could no longer do triple windows effectively. Back on the 38” now bought 42” C4 for my gaming rig. Don’t work on that though. 42” 16:9 is the he same width as 38” UW just taller btw

    • I ran a AW3821DW as my main monitor, with another 34" UW on the side.

38" has been replaced with the AW3425DW, so I have 2 x 34" UW side by side.

AW3821 has been relegated to permanent duties as a sim rig display.

I do 70% work, 30% gaming on the setup.

I didn't mind the drop in real estate. Playing BF6 beta made me realise that huge real estate is more tiring as I need to move my head around more to see what's on the screen.

      • FPS should really be played on a 24" or 27"

        • +2

This seems very subjective. I’m not in any way competitive so maybe that’s why I disagree. But in my experience 34” is perfect for gaming. I enjoy having the wide field of view. But as i said I’m not competing. I just play co-op with friends mainly

          • @rhino015: Probably fun for that. Something like No Man's Sky would look lovely.

  • Nice. Very, very tempted. Sub-$1k to replace my oldschool VA ultrawide. Gonna wait though.

  • Missed out on last deal, glad this came back so fast so I finally copped one. Upgrading to using the trusty old S2721DGF as primary to this AW3425DW as primary. Praying to god the height of the screens are as similar as they say online between a 34 inch Ultrawide and a 27" standard

    • +1

Bro Im upgrading from the same monitor :P

      • Nice! I'm running two S2721DGF and a mismatched S2417DG. The 24 Inch is gonna go so I can hopefully have the monitors in a 27 | 34 | 27 setup.

I got the S2721DGF from deals here yonks ago too lmao

        • I had the s2721DGF also from deals here ages ago. Matched with an s2721D. That was perfect for work. And the DGF was good for gaming. But my friends with 34” mk itors all had wider field of view and more immersion. So I got this monitor. I didn’t like the idea of the lack of symmetry but I got over that. The difference in colour with this monitor vs the s2721d is quite obvious though tbh. I tinkered with settings and that helped. But I’d love to have a u2724D just so it looked closer. Just that’s so expensive for such a minor issue. So i put up with it.

  • Hmmn $944 sure is tempting

  • Thank you. I am now $1000 poorer.

  • Flat is better go for c5

  • This or the AW3225QF…

  • Looking for something like this but suitable for PS5/ console. What would be a good alternative at this budget?

    • +2

If its purely for ps5, you better off getting a TV. Something like a 42" LG C series.

    • +1

      Just get TCL miniled

they have good motion handling on the 120hz port.

  • +1

can't convince myself to go OLED from my G3223Q. will give it a couple more generations until text looks better. G3223Q is awesom for both work and play..

    • 3223Q is a great screen. IPS still rocks.

    • It’s all subjective really. I noticed it but I didn’t care too much pretty quickly tbh. The bigger deal for me was the colour difference compared to my s2722d next to this one

      • +1

is it worse? I mean, I get pretty good colour accuracy on g3223q to a degree that in sRGB mode where it matters to me most it matches my MBP 16 and I can edit on the bigger screen when I need to, just blacks suck on g3223q compared to the Mac as Mac is miniled.

what can you say about colour rendition on this qd-oled?

    • Bought one from the ebay deal on April 2022, it's still awesome till now. Though I got some weird issue when using multiple screens, after a restart sometimes it will boot up on the secondary monitor then go back to the Dell one when windows is fully load.

  • What games do people actually play on these? Do many games even support ultrawide resolutions or benefit from it?

Love ultrawide curved screens in place of 3 single screens for desktop use, but could never see myself gaming on one…

    • Almost any modern game should support ultrawide. Although I know some indie games may need some tinkering to get it to fully work.

I find that it's much more immersive than playing on a normal 16:9 monitor, partly because you actually see more, and in movies, it fills up the entire display. I could never go back, but I understand it's not for everyone.

I can think of quite a few games that benefit. Personally, I had a blast playing Baldur's Gate 3, it'll do well for any racing game, MOBAs, heck, even FPS generally supports it without problems if you're into that (games like Battlefield are mint)

      • (games like Battlefield are mint)

If you play competitive shooters it'll be too big

        • +1

I play CS2 and OW2 without an issue; it's just like looking at a 27-inch monitor, just with more peripheral vision. Also depends on how far you sit from the monitor, for me about 65-70cm

I understand what you're getting at, though. It could feel overwhelming to someone not used to it, or you could argue that the extra peripheral is distracting

  • How do you get it down to $944 , also anyone has luck with JB Hi-Fi to match ?

    • +1

Mine was with edu discount plus some random $10 off they gave me

    • JB will do 1099 if u REALLY..REALLY haggle

Their cost price is 1005 dollars for the screen… they wont go lower than that. they will price match the dell deal that's it..u wont get any lower

      • Their cost price is definitely not $1,005. That would be their minimum margin sale.

  • Thanks OP, got one. I spoke with online chat and got it for $950 (with student email).
Delivery estimated Sep 2, so pretty quick also.

  • +1

I managed to get JB-HiFi to price match for $999.54 in store, thanks OP!

    • Chat would only go to $1089 for me haha, why is jbhifi policy so random

I was think if 999.54 plus some discounted giftcards would be the best deal but might be too much effort to save $50

    • Nice, tried JB Chat today at same time on the AW3225QF 4K, dell has it at 1499 but wouldn't allow the same Dell discount code to match ($1,334), they would only match Amazon which has it at $1,416 (not as good as the ~$1,100 deal last week). Almost pulled the trigger, but starting to look at LG c5 42" as main monitor (similar price on discount specials), plus 24-27inch side monitors in triple setup - jury still out on this one though, gpt is running me in circles on this decision

      • I'm also looking at getting the LG C5 42, could you please show me where the discount specials are?

  • Anyone manage to get the student discount as a staff member? Wife is a university employee, so has an email address but it says they verify enrolment details

    • +1

I’ve done this with Lenovo and Samsung, not sure about Dell.

      Edit:

Students and educators get 15% off and earn Dell Rewards after verifying.

Dell specifically include educators in their student discount program it appears.

  • I'm on the fence should I really spend 1k on a monitor?

  • +1

Have the issues with text been fixed? I understand people say that it’s tolerable but last I researched the problem was in the panels. I’ve been waiting for next gen but that was years ago.

    • +1

Gen 2 text clarity has been slightly improved over gen 1, but it still uses a triangular sub-pixel layout, which people report to still have poor text quality and colour fringing. However, there seem to be an equal number of people who say it's not that noticeable and that others are overexaggerating. The best approach would be to see one in person and judge for yourself if you can find somewhere that has them on display.

I've heard from TFTCentral that both Samsung and LG are working on new 34" 21:9 OLED panels which we could potentially see in 2026, but there's been no word or announcements regarding any actual displays using these new panels, so it still might be a long wait for those.

    • +3

fixed, no, inherent to pixels as other comment says.

good enough you really won't care after tuning it up properly, yeah. Use mine 40hr/wk wfh and don't even think about it anymore.
      use Bettercleartypetuner

the screen pixel shifting very slightly every now and then is way more of a thing. I would describe it as jarring initially, although it's back to 'notice but don't care' levels now.

    • +1

I just had a look at one in JB Hi-Fi and the text clarity and fringing is really not bad at all coming from a CRG9, I'm really not sure what people are complaining about.

    • Thank you. Yes, Ithink I’ll have to go check it out in person.

  • ATL?

  • Just bought this, JB gave me an extra $85 off discounted price. i assume it was because we were getting along!

One issue- when i change to 240hz, text gets fuzzy and a bit green and pink- can anyone help?

    • It's a consequence of the "Pentile subpixel layout" of this screen. You should be able to improve text sharpness by enabling ClearType in Windows.

    • If the text being fuzzy stops at lower refresh rates (so 120hz for example) it will be because either the GPU or cable doesn't support a high enough version of the connection you are using (HDMI or DisplayPort). Essentially there is a bottleneck and the signal is being compressed. I had this issue when I first upgraded to ultrawide.

If however the issue remains even if you go down to 60hz then it might be as the other commenter states an issue with the pixel layout of OLED. Mine is in the post (didn't try price match at JBHIFI as mine won't match online prices) and I hope I don't notice the text clarity some people seem to have issues with.

  • i got an extra $85 after sale

  • I grabbed the VA version of this monitor (Alienware AW3425DWM) for $500 less and I'm very glad I did. Way better colour than my old Dell IPS and no worries about burn-in or text clarity. I don't understand why VA panels get such a bad rap, maybe people who are saying that haven't tried a modern one?

    • I have a VA right now and have just bought this OLED. Been very happy with the VA overall however the blurry motion is something I am looking forward to being behind me. I do hear modern VAs are better now but dark motion is still something they struggle with.

  • I remember getting the Dell G3223Q for 846$ on April 2022, still using it at the moment. Now we have an Alienware 34 inch OLED for 150$ more, time is running fast I guess.

  • +2

Decided to pull the trigger, went into JB and got the student price of $955 matched, then bought $950 of TCN Him cards at 10% off.

Hard to imagine going to beat $850 end price for this monitor

    • Oh I wonder if I could have stacked the $30 JB perks voucher on top lol

    • thanks for the idea mate haha

  • Should I upgrade from a 32 inch 1440p 165hz ips monitor from dell? Is the UW OLED worth $954?? I will be passing on my current monitor to my brother.

  • Hey legends, if anyone in sydney is interested. Jb at moore park have a return aw3225QF for $1200. I had a look and it still had plastic on the acreen so doubt its been turned on. I bought their last new stock and a return for $2500 (beat the dell discount price to $1300)

  • Fffffff

I put off buying and went to buy today and realised I missed the sale :(

Failed the first rule of OzB: Buy now, think later :(
