Brunnings… Not Bunnings. I had a brain fart for far too long then.

    • Came to say the same things… Was like "Why is Woolworths selling Bunnings lawn food" for way too long.

Woolworths had two different Yates Weed 'n' Feed for lawns on sale a week or so ago. A two litre "hose on" product at $15.40, and a one litre "concentrate" at $15. I had a quick look at the instructions for diluting the "concentrate", and thought that it looked like a better deal for it, diluted per instructions, and hosed on using an empty "hose on" container.

Had a closer look when I got home with it. It turned out the "concentrate" had exactly the same amount of active ingredients per litre as the "concentrate". The dilution rate specified for both was for if you were using it using a watering can.

Contacted Yates. They admitted that the "concentrate" wasn't any more concentrated than the hose on product, said I it wasn't "safe" to re-use hose on containers, and said the 1 litre container without any sprayer on the top, at the same price at the 2 litre "hose on" product, "was for people with smaller lawns". Apparently people with smaller brains too, because if they only needed a smaller amount they just needed to use half the contents at a time of the larger container and pay half as much.

Yes, I took it back and swapped it for the 2 litre hose-on product.

The "concentrate" was not an OzBargain.

    • What is the relevance of this essay to this product or deal?

    • Riveting story, was on the edge of my seat all the way till the end.

    • Appreciate you sharing that.
We are really very unaware with what active ingredients manufacturers are using and the bs they use to sell less product for more money.

I miss that show the checkout where nonsense like this was called out every week and consumers were educated on what was a bargain and what definetly wasn't.

  • Not really worth it at all for:

    1. High application rate
    2. Green up factor - 0% Iron content. Therefore wont green up your lawn, will just feed nitrogen contributing to vigourous growth.

In winter, you're better off with Baileys 4.1.1. Or 3.1.1 Plus in warmer months if you must go through the big green shed.

If you have specialist shops near you, much better products can be had.

    • Spring in 2 days.

    • if you must go through the big green shed.

Never seen the Baileys brand in any Bunnings around Brisbane. The best I could find is Scotts with 0.7% Fe.

Seems only available in WA, if you're in BNE I'd consider Lawnpride Australia or Plant Doctor/Lawn Solutions (coincidentally also available as special order from Bunnings).

  • Finally WW got some food half price .

  • Gotta laugh at the marketing bs these days: Environmentally formulated for healthier lawns. Special formulation
And the price, $14 for 2.5kg.

The best lawn fertilizer I have seen was a dumped load of 1/2 tonne of aged manure and compost. The couch lawn was sparse. Spread it out, and the lawn filled in the gaps and became plush.
If you lawn is established, a bit of blood and bone or aged / conditioned manure works.

Remember they will package smaller products and raise the prices to maximize profit.
    Best to shop around.

And if you super keen on lawns, get some clean top soil, as ground levels do change 3-6 months after install or change. 1-2 years later leaving annoying holes that can twist you ankle. Then spread the top soil, loam is good. Ah memories of blue couch.
