  • Are all of 650s stop being made and replaced by 850 or just some?

    • AMD has stopped production and shipping of B650 chips.

      • How come

        • Same reason they still don't make and sell last years model car.

B650 has been obsoleted by the B850.

I just turn off the Armoury Crate prompt in the Bios.

If you leave it on you get an annoying piece of software appear on Windows start up

  • I got this board in one of the Techfast deals - seems pretty solid so far.

It does not have an optical connection - which I didn’t even think to check, so that was annoying but won’t affect most people.

    • Optical for audio?

      • Yeah, toslink. I thought it was pretty standard, but looks like some boards drop it for whatever else.

**I actually have the mATX version, but appears to be the same port layout.

        • It was standard 25 years ago.

Today's digital audio is carried by HDMI.

          • @Nom: Sure, for home theatre it is. Not aware of any PC speakers that have HDMI.

End result is back to 3.5mm (which is far, far older) and reliant on the mediocre onboard DAC. Or HDMI to TV monitor and loop out to optical, but that adds latency.

I guess the assumption is that people only use USB or (yikes) Bluetooth.

I know you were being facetious, but in 2000, optical was absolutely not common on motherboards, you were more likely to find parallel printer and midi ports. And last desktop I built was (only) 4 years ago and it definitely was standard then.

            • @SanguinarySeraph: PC speakers now use USB, as do PC amplifiers.
If you want to connect to a real amplifier or sound bar then you use HDMI.

Optical and CoAx SPDIF signals have been replaced by the above - they can't carry modern HD audio formats, it's very rare to find either on a modern motherboard.

End result is back to 3.5mm (which is far, far older) and reliant on the mediocre onboard DAC.

If there's no other way of driving your speakers except optical, then use one of these https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008130607137.html

  • It says "$247" when I load the page. Amazon seems to be out.

Is this a good option for Ryzen 9600X?

    Looks like it has 2 M.2 slots - 1 PCIE5 and the other, 4: https://www.asus.com/motherboards-components/motherboards/tu…
