    Does an EV need this?

    • +3

Dont know why you got so many downvotes as depending on the EV, the answer is yes. Some EVs actually have all the low voltage equipment run on a seperate battery that only charges from the main battery when the car is on. So if that battery depletes you cant start your car.

    • +1

I'm looking to buy a Kia EV and based on everything I've read I'll want one for that… Meanwhile the byd seal I have doesn't seem to have any big issues on that front.

  • +12

I paid $99.19 for the GT3000 in red in June.
This has already saved me twice and made me look like a hero to someone in the car park once.

    • yep i got the same, great device used it about 3 times since and car pops over instantly

  • -4

$4 on Ali Express. Uses a Makita drill battery. For $7 you also get 2 x 15w USB ports.

    • +3

      Huh? Tell us more…

    • +5

Not quite the same. Using this your drill battery may have enough poke in it to slightly charge your car battery to a level it will start the vehicle, but you won’t be able to start directly from it. Also, it’s probably not going to help with a completely flat or highly sulfated car battery.

      • The Jumper cabling on both this and the ALIx are the same. Both rely on the lithium dumping charge into the lead acid.

Neither can jump direct (ie you are never going to get 600 CCA out of the small lithium pack down the thin cables).

As for completely flat/ sulphated. Depends on what Makita battery you attach to it. You might dump 5Ah into it. But it isn't a charger ..it's an emergency back up. Car has an alternator or DC converter which does the charging once running.

I carry tool batteries anyway, so to add an emergency jump starter (with USB outlets as well for $7)… Done deal. Plus Im maintaining the batteries in everyday use anyway..

Vs this is $100. I'd probably forget to keep it charged/ cook the lithium pack in the car in 6 months.

    • +1

Is there an Ozito compatible one?

    • +3

What about the value of a Makita 4ah batt. Going to be more than one of these, plus that means a battery out of tool circulation if you intend to leave it in your vehicle 24/7

Just purchased the Yesper 4000A from Amazon for $95 ($5 off with coupon VISA5). It also comes with included EVA carry case.

Reviews seem to indicate it’s very similar to the Gooloo GT4000s (possibly the same factory)

Returns should be easier if required with Amazon too

    https://amzn.asia/d/gtYalQE

    • +4

Yeah +1 for this. Got ripped off with a faulty Gooloo on their eBay store. Amazon have simple and easy returns.

    • +1

I still have 2 X as new Gooloo GT3000 starters, but if I needed a new one I would hapily give the Yesper 4000A

a go from that above link (yesterday, as price went up to $120 today). As you said, decent reviews, Amazon service,

great specs and features, not only an included eva case but also includes the 100W Cig charger/cable as well as

a handy DC to Cig socket 10 A (female) which is handy to have. My Goloo GT3000 also from Amazon included a

100W Cig charger/cable, but fairly sure most ebay listings now don't include that any longer.

      • +2

        Just received the Yesper.
        Quality is excellent!
Came with 78% charge. Currently have it charging at 32w using standard wall charger.
        Very happy

        • That was quick delivery then.

Glad to hear it's good quality. Enjoy.

  • Ozito 4000 is $50. Works ok but you need to hit ‘boost’ and then start the car very quickly after that. So far so good

    • +1

Better than the one gooloo i had that actually works. One was faulty. Stick to the ozito and refund in store if its faulty.

    • +1

      Where is it $50?

    • +1

Agreed, where is $50? Currently $99.95 on website.

  • +1

Waiting for one that has build air compressor to inflate tyres. So it can save me twice as much.

    • Gooloo have one of those too - got one in the last Ebay sale. Works well.

    • A3 is garbage mate, get a proper compressor and a better jump starter. Gets very hot, is very slow and battery doesnt last very long at all. Also they sent me a faulty unit and never refunded.

    • Agree, it's a handy to feature to have. I purchased one on the last deal they had

  • I'm wondering if those can start up a car with a completely dead battery?

    • +1

Yes, that’s what they are designed to do.

    • +1

yes - ive just added a vid above that shows exaclty this - charges low battery and dead battery too

    • Yup. My focus battery was so flat I couldn’t unlock the doors. Started first time with the GT3000.
Left the car idle for a bit then did my errands.

    • Has started my Ford Territory from dead flat before.

  • Can these be used as power banks as well to charge laptops?

    • +3

Yes but the charging is very slow. Wouldn't recommend to buy for this purpose.

      • The GT series have 100w charging if that’s your thing.
The GP are much slower for charging.

    • +1

They're designed to deliver a lot of power at once. I believe they stack multiple cells inside to do this. Capacity is secondary.

  • How often you have to recharge to maintain battery level from self discharged?

    • +4

6 months sitting in the car mine lost 3%

      • Where do you store it in the car to avoid it overheating (in summer)?

        • +1

          Passenger floor

    • +1

I've had one sitting around for ages ie like 2 years… and it still worked when i needed it… same brand as this too. These things are great. Saved me like 6 times now. Just keep it in the car. Plug it on and wait a minute or so before trying to turn your car on.

  • these things are amazing. I had a Gt3000 which i have gifted to my relatives, it charges phones, laptops, has a flashlight and has saved me once. I work in defence deployment unit and when travelling and camping, it charged all my devices multiple times. only one problem, the charger provided isn't fast enough. get yourself a ugreen 69w and you'll be good

  • Seems like a super low price.

  • that's a good price. I paid around this much for the 2000a last year

  • Gooloo sent a faulty unit to me and said they would send a new one when back in stock and never did. Ghosted emails via support after they pushed me over the refund threshold.

That was one unit. The second works but a lot weaker than advertised.

Wouldn't touch these. No support from Gooloo and only consumer protection is eBay refund time period. If you buy and it's faulty, do not accept replacement - raise case immediately under eBay.

    • +1

I had a faulty one and just hassled them a bunch on eBay, they eventually caved and sent a new one

      • Yeah sent tonnes of emails and attempted to contact ebay because they had acknowleged the fault and promised to resend but no luck.

There is no contact or support number for Gooloo Australia either no surprise. Happy to link email conversion if anyone wants to see.

    • +1

How do you know it’s faulty? Wouldn’t charge anything? Or specifically just the jump starting was faulty?

      • -1

It was an A3 inflator, but compressor didn't work. I sent them a video and they acknowledged it was faulty. Even gave me a shipping date. It just never got received and they stopped responding to emails.

I have my doubts about how good the jump starter is too because a mate jumped his Patrol off it and it went from full batt to 1/4 in one jump. It also barely started a Falcon.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Bought two GT3000, one for me and one for my daughter's car, which attracted an extra 5% discount for the multi-buy. Then I paid with 4% discounted gift cards through Perkbox at work. Net price paid was $94.90 each.

  • I paid $98.99 for the GP2000 back in October 2019.

I have used it a handful of times for myself, multiple times for others at work and even helped a side loader get started to unload a container.

It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. That’s the way I looked at it when I bought one.

  • Mine arrived. Appears DOA. Requested refund through eBay. States they'll refund me full amount once Auspost scan shipping label .

    • Seems like a common problem which is why I tried Yesper.

      • Thanks man Ill have a look into them. (Y)

    • doa = it wouldnt even charge?

      • +1

Charged fine, then went to turn it on and screen just fully illuminates all symbols and flashes on and off. Cant turn on the light, Cant charge anything from the USBs, connect to 12V battery, nothing
