Pokemon Trading Card Game: Rival Battle Deck - Assorted $30 + Delivery ($0 with OnePass) @ Kmart

40

A nice Pokemon deal for a change.

Battle Decks all come with the same cards, no unknowns, no random cards. What makes this one a standout deal is that each deck comes with a promo card that alone is worth around $30. The card in the Marnie deck (Marnie’s Morpeko #206) is currently worth over $50, the other one (Steven’s Beldum #207) is worth just under $30.

Of course I’m not sure if “assorted” means you will actually get the Marnie or the Steven deck, but either way you can’t go wrong. Limit of 5 per order.

Should I buy one and keep these in the cupboard for 15 years unopened? is this what I should be doing?

    • There's probably too many people doing that already with these new sets so they won't be worth that much extra in the future.

    • no lol. Zero chance itll go up more then a few dollars at most, if at all.

      • I disagree. The Marnie card has been steadily going up. It could be another Kingdra/Greninja promo pair.

        • +3

The Kingdra and Greninja aren't from decks though.

Also, I wouldn't take any market information right now as long term information. So much stuff is being manipulated by people who couldn't care less about the hobby.

          • @[Deactivated]: What’s the difference?

            • +1

@cbrbargain: There's a lot less demand for the decks for a few reasons.

Less ways to make money, because usually 1 card at most is worth anything (there are very rare, old exceptions for decks). And the collection boxes have packs in them that add the "value".

Less demand for the decks. Supply vastly outpaces demand.

              • -1

@[Deactivated]: These decks are almost impossible to get, certainly not for that price.
The big question is: are decks reprinted? Because if not, then these promo cards will stay rare.
The big difference of these decks to previous ones is that they include an art promo card instead of just some crappy ex promo card.

                • @cbrbargain: Okay man. There's clearly nothing I can do to change your mind.
Go ahead and invest your life savings into the decks, and in 15 years, lets see how much you're up.

Like I said, the current market is manipulated as (profanity) by scalpers. It's NOT a good idea to use current market information to gauge long term growth potential.

                  • @[Deactivated]: I agree with you regarding decks, I don’t like buying them, and don’t usually buy them, but this one feels different.

Anyway, how about we do this: If it doubles in price you buy me a beer, if it halves I’ll buy you one.

                  • -2

@[Deactivated]: the irony that you complain about scalpers but then I bet you would happily sell singles at their current market price.

                    • @chadleyshe: There is no "irony" if you need to make up a scenario in your head to create the "irony".

And nope, I've never sold a pokemon card at market. :) I buy to collect for myself.

                      • @[Deactivated]: Same here, I’ve never sold a card and buy to collect. Are you up for trading/swapping cards of equal value?
I just want to complete my sets and stop buying at inflated prices.

                      • -2

@[Deactivated]: so can I hard a 151 Zard for $50 if you don't sell at market?

                        • @chadleyshe: Whatever point you're trying to make, you're failing at miserably.

                          I don't have a 151 zard.
And I wouldn't have to sell it at $50 for it to be under market.

                          • @[Deactivated]: I can give you both a 151 zard if you give me other cards I need of equal value in return…

                            • @cbrbargain: Apparently that guy will only take one at $50 or else you're a dirty scalper.

                          • -2

@[Deactivated]: I thought you said you don't go by market rates?

Point I am proving is you are complaining that scalpers are driving up the market price, but then you are benefitting from same when cards are suddenly worth so much more.

                            • -1

@chadleyshe: How many more times do I have to explain this?
I DONT SELL CARDS AT MARKET. I COLLECT.

The only card I've ever sold for market was from a dead tcg and I pulled the card myself from a booster box.
I have spent thousands on cards that I will never sell unless its life or death need for money.

                                • +1

@Cludo: I do not blame you at all. I'd be doing the same.

                              • -1

                                @[Deactivated]: Sure you don't.

                              • +1

@[Deactivated]: Some people just don't understand that you're a collector not a scalper. I collect cards too for myself and kids. I don't sell cards at market either.
Him asking to buy a 151 zard for $50 is a joke trying to make you come off as a hypocrite. I'd gladly sell it to him for that price the day i no longer have interest in pokemon cards loll.

                                • @piggiepanda: Yeah, my nephews and niece get all my pokemon cards that I no longer want.
Any slabs or high value cards I no longer want, I sell to friends/fellow collectors at below what I paid, even if the market has taken a rise.

I am a passionate TCG collector and have been my entire life. I don't ever plan on selling stuff.

                                  • @[Deactivated]: Then let’s trade/swap as I suggested above. No need to sell to me below market, just a fair swap of equal value cards we each need to complete our sets.

                                    • @cbrbargain: I don't have anything I want to trade. Everything I have right now is something I enjoy :)

                                • -1

@piggiepanda: actually it is all about highlighting irony when you have people complaining about scalpers, but then the first to sell their individual cards at market price, which they say is a result of "scalpers".

At the end of the day, who cares. If you can sell something for a high price then good luck to you.

                                  • @chadleyshe: I don’t see what’s wrong with buying or selling cards at market price. I don’t think that’s what makes you a scalper.

    • should buy them all and then you'll be able to control the price with your massive monopoly over supply

    • The vast majority of pokemon cards with the exception of specific few that most people never had access to not gained anything worthwhile in value.

Its amazing that people would even consider collecting the majority of things in a hope that it increases in value.

      • It's not about collecting, it's about scalping and reselling for profit. Do you think there would be lines outside Costco for packs if there wasn't any money in it?

    • I been doing that with LEGO sets for years now LOL

  • It's been an online exclusive for a little while, tried to order 2 for myself on two occasions and have been refunded each time. I put in an order for two now just to test my luck!

    • jbhifi has it too
      gamesmen if ur local
eb games have it at 35

      • Jbhifi doesn’t have them anymore, link is dead.
EBganes has limit of one, delivery only, so effectively $45 and I suspect there is a high chance they send you the Steven.

        My Kmart order got confirmed.

        • I bought one box from ebgames last week, and received a Marni box.

  • Just updating everyone that my order was cancelled and refunded.
