I have a limited Red one, but at this price I'll grab a spare White. For me this is the best controller for Switch 1 (I run Switch OLED in it). Much more comfortable for long gaming sessions than original joycons. Hall effect joysticks, customizable buttons at the back - priceless for games that need both thumbsticks and also XYAB.

Very comfortable in the hands, very solid protection for the switch itself.

Limited editions come with the "premium carry case" and I love the one that came with the Red one, it's perfect fit and high quality, with 8 game card storage too, and a strap. White and Black I understand don't come with one.

Nitro Deck Plus may be worth considering for some folks, but I didn't like symmetrical thumbsticks, was a show stopper for me. Original is perfect.

Nitro Deck Plus is a lot better and doesn’t scratch your switch like this one does I’ve read.

    • I was looking forward to Plus, but it didn't add anything I'd want to pay extra for, and the thumbstick layout was better on the original. so IMO original is a better choice for someone like me. plus Plus (no pun intended) is more expensive, so..

P.S. no scratches on my Switch

      • Sounds good for you then. I just read a lot of people had issues with the first one scratching the back of the switch so I kept away

  • Thanks OP; picked one up in the hope that I'll find the time to play what has been to date an expensive paperweight.

    • too many gaming consoles?

      • no i agree with him

but i dont think it was that expensive.. $400 for a brick with faulty joycons is a bargain

  • I got one a little while back at EB for 50 with the case.

Honestly wouldn't pay a cent more, hardly worth that. I use third party controllers all the time, I'm not a sook who can't stand anything other than OEM, but this thing is one of the cheapest feeling contraptions I've ever held. The plastic feels like a McDonald's toy. It does the job, sure, but as someone who has a Steam Deck, this doesn't bridge the gap, it just makes a nice thin switch into a big fat brick, but I guess it at least won't get stick drift this time.

That being said, the ND+ which is effectively a dock and controller in one, does sound pretty dope tbh

    • Wonder if the ND+ feels cheap too

    • I don't share this experience TBH, it feels very solid made, and thumbsticks are very smooth, buttons and triggers have satisfying feedback. it feels better than hori split pad, and provides better experience than Switch Controller Pro which doesn't have Hall anything

the only downside of this is that the rumble sucks, it's disabled on mine. not that I am a big fan of rumble in general anyway.

overall this thing turned my Switch into something that's finally comfortable to hold, and enhanced the tactile sensation from gameplay compared to joy cons. so it's a good product, and the price is very reasonable IMO

and I picked up my Limited Edition Red for $59 at JB few months back when it was on special. I wanted to post that but got distracted lol

Here's the thing too, I should say, with prices…I think controllers being in the triple digits is ridiculous. I think 50/60 is where controllers should max out (bar those expensive silly fancy elite ones and whatnot), and with that in mind, you could say I consider it worth the full cost of a controller. I don't mean to say it's worth less, it's definitely not.

But the plastic really does feel cheap to me. Not cheap in the way you could twist it and snap the bastard, but cheap in the way it almost feels rough. Like it doesn't feel like a smooth, premium accessory, it feels a step above your average 3D print job, but less sturdy than even the cheapest emulation console I've owned (and I've bought some CHEEEEAP ones)

Buttons and everything do feel good, and the unit is comfortable, and for 60 odd bucks I'd take this over pair of joycon…but I definitely wouldn't be paying triple digits.

For the price, if you needed new remotes I'd recommend it, but unless you find the joycon particularly uncomfortable, or you've got the drift, I wouldn't say it's worth upgrading tbh.

I'd ramble more but I hate phone typing. Tldr, it's a good controller, but not a great one, and probably not worth as an upgrade, though definitely great as a replacement or player 2 option

  • It's clearance now on Big W app! Thanks so much OP
